Kosuge Village's 'kadoya' Community Lobby Repurposed from Old Inn to Pre-Open Cafe on June 15, 2026

EDGE Inc. (Headquarters: Kosuge Village, Yamanashi; Representative: Shimpei Shimada), is set to launch cafe operations at its new facility, 'kadoya,' on June 15, 2026, ahead of its full grand opening in Kosuge Village, Kitatsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture.

Furthermore, the company has begun accepting lodging reservations for the facility's micro-hotel, which is scheduled to grand open on July 18, 2026, via its official website.

■ About the 'kadoya' Revitalization Project

Kosuge Village is a mountain village located in the upper reaches of the Tama River in eastern Yamanashi. In its heyday, the village was home to over 2,000 people and flourished with numerous local shops and inns. At the center of the village stood an inn called 'Kadoya,' a place beloved by locals and travelers alike.

However, due to declining birthrates and an aging population, Kosuge Village’s population has dropped to approximately 620, leading it to be labeled as a municipality at risk of disappearance. 'Kadoya,' once a vibrant gathering place, ceased operations and fell into disrepair as time passed. The loss of this central community space became a symbol of the realities of depopulation facing the region.

We launched this project to breathe new life into the site, aiming to revitalize the village sustainably by repurposing it into a new hub that connects people within and outside the village.

■ 'kadoya': A New Hub for the Village

The concept of the new facility, 'kadoya,' is 'Opening the Doors of the Village.'

In its past life, 'Kadoya' was a familiar part of daily life, welcoming visitors and residents. This revitalization preserves that history while adding new roles necessary for modern Kosuge Village.

By integrating features such as a cafe, lodging, a laundromat, and a children's space, the facility serves as a gateway for first-time visitors to connect with local life, a catalyst for frequent visitors to deepen their ties with the village, and a place where residents can enjoy coffee, talk with others, and drop in casually in their daily lives.

'kadoya' aims to be the 'Village Lobby'—a place where residents, visitors, and people involved in the community spend time in the same space and naturally engage in conversation, creating new touchpoints with Kosuge Village.

■ Cafe Pre-opening on June 15 (Mon)

The cafe will commence operations on June 15, ahead of the July grand opening. The interior features approximately 40 seats, including tables, a counter, and raised tatami seating. While modern in its use of white walls and black beams and pillars, it offers a nostalgic atmosphere with the warmth of wood. It is designed to be a spot for tourists to visit before exploring the village, for neighbors to enjoy coffee, and for residents to gather daily.

Menu offerings center on specialty coffee supervised by ONIBUS COFFEE, along with light meals and sweets. Sweets are being developed with the chef of 'Satologue,' a local food initiative. For meals, the cafe will collaborate with the 'Genryu Bread Workshop' to offer items like Nordic 'smørrebrød' (open-faced sandwiches) featuring bread baked in the village.
