Why the Theme "Working in Japan"?

Many foreigners working in Japan, even if they can converse in Japanese, are often confused by the unique ways of thinking and communication styles specific to the workplace.

For example:

Being told "I'll consider it" but not understanding the true meaning.

Uncertainty about when to consult about a mistake.

Difficulty communicating with Japanese people.

They may struggle with Japanese culture and customs.

This exchange meeting was held to provide an opportunity to learn about Japanese workplace culture, aiming to reduce these concerns even slightly.

Staff explaining the theme.

What Was Learned at the Exchange Meeting

At this exchange meeting, participants learned about workplace culture and work rules that foreigners working in Japan should know.

Through lectures, case studies, and opinion exchanges among participants, we considered common situations in Japanese workplaces together.

1 Tatemae and Honne (Public Face and True Feelings)

In Japan, to value relationships with others, people may use indirect expressions instead of clearly saying "NO."

At the exchange meeting, using expressions commonly used in work, such as:

"I'll consider it."

"It's a little difficult."

We discussed together what feelings Japanese people have when they say these things.

2 Ho-Ren-So (Reporting, Contacting, Consulting)

In Japan, work is often done as a team rather than individually.

Therefore, it is important to "Report, Contact, and Consult" promptly.

At the exchange meeting, participants discussed "when is the best time to consult" using examples of difficult work situations.

3 Where to Seek Advice When in Trouble / How to Find a Job

We also introduced consultation services for when you encounter problems at work and ways to find jobs in Japan.

At the exchange meeting, information useful for working in Japan with peace of mind was shared, including:

Finally, Time for Individual Consultations and Free Exchange

After the lecture, there was time for participants to freely interact with each other and for individual consultations with staff.

Participants spent their time as they wished, consulting about daily questions and anxieties regarding life and work in Japan, and sharing experiences from their home countries and Japan with each other.

New connections were made through the exchange meeting, and the characteristic of Tsunagari Plus Exchange Meetings is not only "learning" but also "being able to consult" and "connecting."
