An official interview has arrived from South Korean actor Kim Dong Hee, ahead of his "2026 KIM DONG HEE TOKYO FANMEETING 'Dear, Again'" to be held on July 25, 2026 (Sat) at Tokyo's Hulic Hall, Asakusabashi!
-- You are about to hold your Japanese fan meeting 'Dear, Again.' How do you feel about meeting your Japanese fans again after some time, and what are you most looking forward to at this fan meeting?
I'm really looking forward to meeting my Japanese fans in person again after a long time. Of course, I'm also a little nervous. I've felt the support from everyone who has continued to cheer me on from afar, so this fan meeting feels like it will be a special time for me.
Above all, I'm most looking forward to being able to talk with you all while seeing your faces in the same space. I hope to meet you all in my natural, everyday self, rather than through my work or on screen.
-- The fan meeting title 'Dear, Again' conveys the desire to 'reunite with precious fans and create new memories.' What feelings did you put into this title?
The title 'Dear, Again' is imbued with the feeling of wanting to express my endless gratitude to the fans who have waited for me for so long, in my own words.
I hope it will be a time for a new beginning, not just a reunion after a long time, but a time where we can walk together from now on.
I would be happy if this day becomes a cherished memory for both me and all of you.
-- You have been loved for many roles in works such as 'SKY Castle,' 'Itaewon Class,' and 'Extracurricular.' If there was a work or character that marked the biggest turning point for you as an actor, Kim Dong Hee, could you tell us why?
The work that marked the biggest turning point for me was 'Extracurricular.'
It was my first leading role, so I felt a great sense of responsibility and the pressure to 'carry this work on my own.'
The character Jisoo wasn't someone who could be judged as simply good or bad, and his emotional range was very wide, so I thought deeply and struggled with the role while filming.
Through that experience, I was able to engage with my work more deeply as an actor and learned a lot on set.
Many people saw a new side of me after 'Extracurricular,' and I believe it was a work that prompted me to approach acting more seriously.
-- If there are any special corners or stages you've prepared specifically for this fan meeting, could you give us a little hint? Is there anything fans should particularly look forward to?
For this fan meeting, we've prepared many opportunities for closer interaction with fans than ever before. I hope to take the time to share things you've been curious about, and things I personally want to talk about.
We've also prepared some segments that you can enjoy casually, so I hope it will be a time where you can naturally smile without feeling too formal. Since it's a chance to meet you all again after a long time, I also want to be relaxed and spend a fun time together.
-- Japanese fans often cite your delicate acting and warm presence as your most charming qualities. Are there any particularly memorable moments or episodes from the support you've received from your Japanese fans?
I always gratefully read the letters and messages I receive from my Japanese fans.
Especially for my birthday last month, some people sent cakes and presents from Japan, and I was truly touched by their thoughtfulness, which remains in my heart even now.
In the fan club, there are people who express their feelings in Korean, and those who send detailed reviews about scenes and lines from my works, which are very encouraging.
Every time I hear that you continue to watch my past works even after time has passed and that you 'look forward to my next project,' I feel motivated to show you an even better side of myself.
I would be happy if I could convey that gratitude directly at this fan meeting.
-- Please give a message to your Japanese fans who are eagerly awaiting 'Dear, Again.'
I am personally very much looking forward to meeting you all in Japan again after a long time.
I am preparing with all my heart to deliver a wonderful time to everyone who has waited so long. I hope this fan meeting will be a warm and memorable experience for both me and all of you.
I look forward to seeing you at the venue.
Thank you.
