BMSG Inc. (hereinafter referred to as BMSG) is pleased to announce the introduction of an asset building and life plan support program, "Unseen Life Plan" (pronounced: anshin life plan), for its affiliated artists*. This program includes neutral information provision through tax education, the establishment of an environment for life plan design, and a support system where the company backs up savings up to 100%*.
The aim of this program is to reduce future financial anxiety for artists, who are often influenced by fleeting trends, and to create an environment where they can immerse themselves in daily creative production. It enables artists to have their own financial backing and build an equal relationship with the agency. Through this, we will realize our mission: "To not kill talent."
The program name "Unseen" signifies that we have prepared an "unprecedented support program" for the artists' "unseen future," unbound by the conventions of the entertainment industry. Simultaneously, it aims to create a foundation that allows artists to move towards the future with "peace of mind" (anshin).
*1 Artists who have an exclusive management contract with BMSG are eligible.
*2 The total cumulative limit is 5 million yen. The support funds are linked to the "saved amount (contribution amount)" and are not linked to investment performance or valuation. They do not guarantee returns or cover losses. For details, please refer to the "About the Asset Building and Life Plan Support Program 'Unseen Life Plan'" below.
Background and Objectives of Introducing "Unseen Life Plan"
The Japanese government is strongly promoting a shift from "savings to investment" as a national policy, exemplified by the expansion of the new NISA. However, many existing asset-building models assume employees with regular monthly incomes. For freelancers and artists, who experience significant income fluctuations and require a safety net, there has been a void in optimized support and information provision tailored to their life cycles.
While artists may experience "sudden income increases" from hit works, they also face the risk of substantial tax burdens in the following year and the structural challenges of lacking retirement benefits and employment insurance. BMSG believes that this environment of future anxiety and being constrained by immediate living expenses wears down artists' minds and bodies, narrowing their creative potential. For artists to maintain a "creative-first" approach and pour 100% of their energy into their expressions, financial independence is indispensable.
BMSG has previously conducted "Financial Education Workshops" for its affiliated artists to foster the ability to manage money correctly based on their own judgment. This time, we are taking these efforts a step further by deciding to build and implement a system that provides support through [Education, Action, and Continuation].
About the Asset Building and Life Plan Support Program "Unseen Life Plan"
This program goes beyond mere information provision. Its distinctive feature is that BMSG, in collaboration with external independent experts, provides comprehensive, no-cost support to create an environment where artists can proactively design and sustain their life plans with an eye on the future.
1. [Education] "Financial Education Attendance Support" to learn from the basics of tax and finance
Regular practical financial education workshops will be held for artists and their guardians to learn about the tax filing system and the structure of taxes. The company will fully support the costs of attendance as "Financial Education Attendance Support Funds."
2. [Action] "Neutral Asset Building Support" not tied to specific financial institutions
We do not engage in the recommendation or solicitation of specific financial products or tie-ups with financial institutions. Instead, we partner with external independent financial advisors (IFAs) and certified public accountants to provide an environment where artists can consult based on their career cycles and life plans. This supports the execution of asset management and life planning from an unbiased perspective.
3. [Continuation] "Asset Building Support System" that adds up to 100%* of savings as support funds, based on individual savings achievements
We are introducing a system where the company provides support funds based on the artist's voluntary asset-building (savings) efforts for the future (※ Limit: cumulative total of 5 million yen / provided after withholding tax).
Example: When an artist individually invests 1 million yen in savings annually, BMSG will provide the same amount, 1 million yen, to the artist as "Asset Building Support Funds."
Comment from Representative Director and CEO: SKY-HI (Kōta Hidaka)
"Having been in the entertainment industry myself since I was 14, I have witnessed the career transitions of many people in various forms. It is not uncommon for talented artists, lacking sufficient financial knowledge and support to acquire it, to suffer in their long lives after momentary success, compromise their creativity for the sake of their livelihood, or limit their options. Furthermore, BMSG aims for a 'HEALTHY & HONESTY' relationship where the agency and artists respect each other as independent professionals, rather than an unhealthy structure bound by financial dependence. We want to create an opportunity to support the foundation that allows artists to firmly grasp the helm of their own lives and walk the path they desire with pride. It is from this desire that we launched 'Unseen Life Plan.'
While some athletes have pension systems, there is no system to guarantee the future of artists. Our goal in asset building is not to increase money itself, but to protect the freedom of expression without being bound by money. To protect artists' lives and create an environment where they can continue to express themselves in true freedom. Through this system, BMSG is seriously considering the sustainability of those who love music and aims for a new standard for talent to shine for a long time."
