BLUABLE Co., Ltd. (hereinafter 'BLUABLE') is pleased to announce its selection as one of the final five projects in the 'Co-Creation Hub Track' of 'Triangle Ehime 2.0 (TRY ANGLE EHIME 2.0)', a digital implementation acceleration project led by Ehime Prefecture, out of 101 applications.

BLUABLE will initiate a demonstration experiment aiming to enhance the productivity and reduce risks in Akoya pearl oyster farming through an ICT-enabled, environment-adaptive aquaculture system.

Press Release Issued: June 16, 2026 Triangle Ehime 2.0 Announces Selected Projects for the Reiwa 8 'Co-Creation Hub Track'!

Background of the Selected Project: Challenges Facing Pearl Aquaculture

Currently, Japan’s pearl aquaculture industry faces serious regional challenges due to rising sea temperatures and complex changes in marine environments, resulting in poor growth and mass mortality (known as 'heishi') of Akoya pearl oysters. Traditional aquaculture methods based on experience and intuition are insufficient for immediate responses to environmental changes, making digital technology essential for stabilizing production, maintaining quality, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the industry.

Project Overview: Implementation of the 'Automated Depth-Adjustable Aquaculture System'

This project will develop and verify an 'Automated Depth-Adjustable Aquaculture System' that automatically raises and lowers Akoya oysters to optimal water depths.

- Growth Enhancement through Phytoplankton Tracking By leveraging real-time marine environmental data, the aquaculture nets will automatically move to depths rich in phytoplankton—the primary food source for Akoya oysters—thereby promoting growth and improving pearl quality.

- Risk Reduction through Automatic Retreat During Environmental Anomalies When adverse conditions such as high water temperatures or low oxygen levels are detected, the system will promptly retreat oysters to safer depths, significantly reducing the risk of mass mortality.

About the 'Co-Creation Hub Track' of Triangle Ehime

The 'Co-Creation Hub Track' targets startups operating in co-creation hubs across Japan, offering them implementation fields within Ehime Prefecture—such as local companies and municipalities—to simultaneously address regional challenges and accelerate startup growth. In 2026, 101 applications were received nationwide. The final projects were selected following a pitch evaluation at 'THE FINAL PITCH 2026', held on May 29, 2026, at 'E:N BASE', Ehime Prefecture’s public-private co-creation hub.

Future Outlook

Through this project, BLUABLE aims to resolve challenges in Ehime’s traditional pearl aquaculture industry using digital technology and establish a sustainable, high-efficiency 'next-generation aquaculture model'. Building on the implementation results in Ehime, the company plans to expand this technology to marine and fisheries sites nationwide, contributing to the advancement of Japan’s fisheries industry.
