(The English version of the press release can be viewed here.)
AoharuNEXT Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Rinon Moriyama) announced the "FocusRay Extension" (Pronunciation: FocusRay Extension), an eye-tracking device for VR SNS, on April 12, 2026, which can be used in conjunction with various prescription lenses. We are pleased to announce that it is the world's first* external eye-tracking device to be compatible with eyeglasses.
(*As of announcement, based on our research | For add-on eye-tracking devices for VR headsets)
Following our announcement, we received numerous inquiries from customers regarding compatibility with eyeglasses. Initially, our development team concluded that "eyeglass compatibility would be difficult," and we had asked customers to switch to prescription lenses.
We are now pleased to announce that, as development has progressed, we have confirmed compatibility with eyeglasses and will officially support them.

1. Eyeglass Compatibility for FocusRay Extension
FocusRay Extension employs a magnetic suction method, different from conventional products, to support prescription lenses. (The arm with the camera attached extends and retracts left and right, allowing compatibility with multiple devices.)
By inserting the arm into the inside of your eyeglasses and hooking the main unit onto the nose bridge area, you can enjoy an eye-tracking experience comparable to using it without glasses, thanks to the magnetic suction.
To ensure proper fixation even with eyeglasses, we have added a new fixing part.
*Patent pending Patent application numbers: 2026-061377 and 2026-132546
The following are the restrictions for eyeglasses:
- Lens thickness must be 5mm or less (if the thickness is greater, it may not be possible to attach properly.)
- Vertical width of the eyeglasses must be 5cm or less.
- Horizontal width of the eyeglasses must be 14.5cm or less.
- The thickness of the temple arms must be 3mm or less in diameter (if the shape is flat and parallel to the wearer, it must be 4mm or less in the horizontal direction).
- The nose pads must protrude 6mm or more towards the wearer, either as independent or integrated nose pads (eyeglasses without nose pads cannot be used.)
- Must not be of a special shape (star, heart, square, etc.).
- Must fit within the shape of the head-mounted display.
All eyeglasses that meet the above criteria can be used.
Furthermore, customers who have already purchased the FocusRay Extension can use it with their eyeglasses without any special modifications.
Reservations can be made here.
Demonstration video of the attachment method *The video may appear to show the arms significantly overlapping the eyeglass lenses, but this will be resolved if your eyeglasses fit within the specified dimensions.
2. About FocusRay Extension
FocusRay Extension is an eye-tracking device for VR SNS, composed of a compact camera module and a core module.
It utilizes a unique magnetic suction method*, allowing users to use it without issues whether they are using prescription lenses attached to VR headset lenses or wearing eyeglasses. (This is not a lens fixing method.)
In addition to being used with all FocusRay models (AONXV-001-W / AONXV-001WR), FocusRay Extension can also be used on its own or in combination with other companies' face-tracking devices.
However, please note that the "proximity sensor" which detects detachment from the VR headset and automatically transitions to sleep mode will no longer be usable. Please be aware of this before purchasing.
*Patent pending Patent application numbers: 2026-061377 and 2026-132546
The core module, which houses the information processing board and battery, is equipped with one USB Type-C port for power supply. For example, by connecting FocusRay here, you can extend the continuous operating time by leveraging the large capacity battery (2000mAh) of the FocusRay Extension.
It also features two USB Type-C ports for communication and power supply. One can be used for input from HMDs, etc., and the other for output to audio devices, etc.
This resolves various issues with a single FocusRay Extension core module, without the need for USB splitters.
FocusRay Extension is compatible with the following headsets. We will announce additional compatible devices as we complete verification with actual units.
Customers who own multiple devices can purchase a separate mounting base to use the main unit with multiple devices.
- Valve Index
- Meta Quest series (Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3s/3)
- PICO 4/Ultra
- HTC VIVE
- HTC VIVE Pro 2
- Pimax Crystal Light
Compatible platforms are VRChat, Resonite, and ChilloutVR, where the software is supported.
By using "Baballonia," developed by the open-source face and eye-tracking project "Project Babble," smooth face tracking is supported.
