ACTA PLUS Co., Ltd. (Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture; CEO: Kiwako Hashimoto), under the slogan 'Turning sustainable logic into aspiration,' held the public art exhibition 'Mystic Forest' at the 1F Galleria of Tokyo Midtown Yaesu from February 21 to March 5, 2026.
Three artists used materials designated as 'waste' from various scenarios to create works that formed a 'forest.' They provided visitors with a walk-through installation, allowing them to navigate the exhibit as if wandering through a natural woodland. The event successfully created scenes where people from all walks of life—from commuting office workers to children on holiday and foreign tourists—could get 'lost' in and enjoy this forest made of waste in the heart of the city.
About the Public Art Exhibition 'Mystic Forest':
This project was designed as a space to openly question the nature of the circular society from 2026 onwards. It was set in the Yaesu-Nihonbashi area, the heart of Edo culture where a unique circular society once flourished. While the ESG and green markets are expanding, environmental and sustainable efforts are still often perceived as mandatory 'logical requirements.' This project aimed to transform these into positive entities that people can enjoy, leading to the creation of this public opportunity.
In preparation for the event, a crowdfunding campaign was launched in December last year, reaching 310% of its target with a total of 3,102,000 yen in less than two months. Support came from a diverse range of people, including general interest groups and office workers involved in circularity and sustainability, reaffirming the high level of common awareness regarding sustainability challenges.
Co-creation with Partner Companies and Organizations:
For this exhibition, materials provided by three companies headquartered in the same area (Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd., ITOKI CORPORATION, and Ichimasu Tagen) were used, realizing a co-creation that generates a sustainable context as a part of the city's culture.
Introduction of Artworks:
- 'HOSEKI' by Saihou Ozono: Using waste that holds memories and history, this work makes discarded objects shine like 'jewels.' As a modern Ikebana artist, Ozono aims to make viewers feel a vast world beyond the physical size of the work.
- 'Still Growing' by Yoko Ichikawa: This work reflects the transition from the waste-free society of the Edo period to the current mass-waste era, showing life still sprouting from layered, discarded materials where artificial and natural elements blend.
- 'Building Breath: Insect's Eye View' by Yusuke Aonuma: Inspired by urban demolition, Aonuma views the destruction of buildings as a biological process of death and rebirth. He creates new architectural life from concrete rubble, treating it like decomposed cells that give birth to new buds.
At the opening reception on the first day, guests from the art and sustainability sectors and crowdfunding supporters were invited to learn about the world ACTA PLUS aims to create and its future activities.
