Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise to Hold the 26th Hakkeijima Hydrangea Festival Featuring 20,000 Plants from June 6, 2026

Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise will host the 26th Hakkeijima Hydrangea Festival from Saturday, June 6 to Sunday, June 28, 2026. Surrounded by the sea, Hakkeijima Island is adorned with various flowers that bloom in each season. In early summer, an array of hydrangeas reaches its peak, boasting one of the largest scales in the prefecture with 20,000 blooming plants. These include the French hydrangea, lacecap hydrangea, and Hakkeijima's original variety 'Hakkei Blue'.

During the Hakkeijima Hydrangea Festival, there are many events where visitors can fully enjoy the charm of hydrangeas. Highlights include the 'Hydrangea Hakkei Tour Stamp Rally,' where guests can visit eight scenic spots on the island while collecting stamps, as well as a collaboration between marine creatures and flowers, and visually stunning food inspired by hydrangeas. Since entry to Hakkeijima Island is free, visitors can casually enjoy viewing the hydrangeas during a stroll, or take a break at a restaurant or cafe. The island also features indoor attractions and shops where you can spend your time comfortably even on rainy days. Please enjoy Sea Paradise in a way that is unique to the rainy season.

The 'Hydrangea Hakkei Tour Stamp Rally' allows visitors to stroll through the hydrangea garden paths and visit eight scenic spots. A total of five original Hakkeijima stamps are placed, including the start and finish lines. By collecting all the stamps on the 'Hydrangea Map,' guests will receive discount benefits at restaurants and shops.

The 'Pressed Flower Exhibition' will display painting-like artworks using pressed flowers from June 6 to June 28, between 9:00 and 16:00, at the Passenger Ship Terminal 1F Lobby. Admission is free, with cooperation from Yokohama Ryokuchi Co., Ltd.

The 'Hakkeijima Hydrangea Tea Party' offers a moment of relaxation with tea and sweets prepared by the masters of the Kanazawa Tea Ceremony Association. It will be held on June 13 and 14, from 10:00 to 15:00 at the Passenger Ship Terminal. The fee is 300 yen, limited to the first 150 people per day.

The 'Hydrangea Propagation Class' provides instructions on cutting and growing hydrangeas on June 16 and 17, from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Passenger Ship Terminal. The class is free, limited to 8 people per session.

The 'Flower Arrangement' event invites visitors to create dynamic artworks using roses, hydrangeas, and Hakkeijima plants on June 23 and 24, from 10:00 to 12:00 at the Passenger Ship Terminal. The fee is 700 yen, limited to 20 people per session.

The 'Hydrangea Event Day' on June 27 and 28 will feature the sale of handmade hydrangea-themed goods, workshops, a performance by the Yokohama City Fire Band on the 27th, and traditional Okinawan Eisa dancing by Gima Kanagawa-kai on the 28th.

In addition, the 'Hanapara' event will be held inside the aquarium from May 30 to July 12, featuring the 'Super Sardine Illusion' and a Cape Penguin parade along paths decorated with colorful flowers, alongside the 'Animal Life Live!' performances.
