[Key Lecture Content] Automotive decarbonization has entered a phase where EVs are no longer the sole focus. Instead, EVs, hydrogen, and Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) are being utilized selectively based on national and regional industrial structures, energy resources such as renewables and biomass, and infrastructure constraints.
This lecture will compare U.S. tax credits, LCFS, and RFS; China’s NEV promotion policies and hydrogen demonstrations; and Europe’s RED III and AFIR to clarify which fuels each region intends to promote for specific applications. It will outline the differing winning strategies for passenger and commercial vehicles and provide implications for Japanese companies.
1. Why look at 'automotive fuel policies' through regional comparisons now? 2. U.S.: The expansion of RNG, hydrogen, and low-carbon fuels driven by market incentives 3. China: A dual-front strategy focusing on EVs while cultivating hydrogen for commercial vehicles 4. Europe: Advancing EVs, hydrogen, and renewable gases through regulation-led initiatives 5. Implications for Japanese companies: What Japan should learn and how it should act 6. Q&A / Business card exchange
