Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores (hereinafter referred to as "the Company") will hold the inaugural "Think LOCAL: Traveling Coffee" event starting Monday, March 30, as part of its "Think LOCAL" initiative, which aims to promote the charm of the regions where its stores are located and foster regional prosperity.
The event features a kitchen car traveling through six cities across Japan—Tokyo, Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto, Shizuoka, and Aichi—carrying original coffee from cafes and roasteries based in Tokyo, Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto, and Aichi, as well as a cafe scheduled to open in Hokkaido this spring.
At the kitchen car's COFFEE STAND, visitors can purchase original drip bags. Additionally, those who complete a survey about coffee will be offered a tasting of these specialty brews. The key visual features artwork by the notable artist Shotaro Sanada. We aim to provide a travel-like experience where you can enjoy coffee while imagining the city and gazing at the "new landscapes" depicted by Sanada.
※ The first 200 people each day who complete the survey will be able to sample coffee from the participating cafes.
※ Business hours are 11:00–16:00, ending when supplies run out (Daimaru Shinsaibashi store starts at 10:00).
■ Participating Cafes/Roasteries and Kitchen Car Schedule/Locations
BERTH COFFEE (Sumida Ward, Tokyo) @ March 30 (Mon) & 31 (Tue) - Daikanyama T-SITE, Tokyo
At BERTH COFFEE ROASTERY Haru in the craft-focused district of Oshiage, Sumida Ward, young roaster Yui Nishimura, who serves as the business manager, is working to expand the reach of coffee culture. She aims to create an open, accessible roasting facility through a "share roaster" model while pursuing the depth and diversity of coffee flavors.
petal (Kobe, Hyogo) @ April 4 (Sat) & 5 (Sun) - Daimaru Shinsaibashi Store
Located in Hanakuma, Kobe, petal was opened by owner Miku Namba, who has a unique background as a former volleyball player. She started the cafe with the desire to create a "place to belong" where both she and others could always return. While it is a cafe, it serves less as just a place to provide coffee and more as a community hub.
