Zushiya Ginza Main Store, operated by Altemeister Yoshi Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture; President: Shoichi Kakiya), a manufacturer of Buddhist altars, fittings, and tablets, is hosting the exhibition 'Tools that breathe in daily life: From the eyes and hands of Eguchido' until Sunday, May 10th.

■ A New Challenge for the 10th Exhibition Since the Renewal of Zushiya Ginza Main Store

In October 2024, Zushiya Ginza Main Store was renovated with a new shop on the 1st floor as a place to find one's own 'style of prayer.' While the store has previously proposed modern prayer styles through various artists, for this milestone 10th exhibition, it welcomes 'Eguchido,' known for their unique aesthetic eye and handcrafted approach. This exhibition takes a new perspective, focusing on 'tools that accompany daily life,' featuring items introduced by Eguchido from visits to workshops and makers across Japan.

In this exhibition, the space of Zushiya introduces items that bring quiet beauty to everyday scenes, such as dining tables and living rooms, not just tools specifically for prayer.

Eguchido

A unit consisting of a buyer who spent over twenty years selecting tools for living at a major publishing house's mail-order department, and an architect who designs residential houses. They visit workshops, makers, and manufacturers that create tools for daily life across various regions, selecting items from the perspective of 'home and living,' ranging from handcrafted pieces to everyday tools. Based on years of accumulated experience, they propose tools that blend into life over time.

■ Hearing the Thoughts of Ryuichi Eguchi of Eguchido

Ryuichi Eguchi, one of the operators of Eguchido, spent over 20 years at a major publishing house, gaining experience visiting production sites and makers nationwide as an editor and buyer, researching the backgrounds of craftsmanship and introducing them in publications.

In the spring of 2024, he became independent and started 'Eguchido - Where Life and Tools are Found.' Leveraging his past knowledge, he strives to propose lifestyle tools where the makers' commitment and warmth can be felt.

- Message for the Exhibition -

Whether it's a piece born from an artist's hand or a tool for daily life, there breathes not only function but also ingenuity, joy, and the beauty inherent in each form.
Traveling across regions, sometimes returning, and sometimes taking detours, we have walked between the worlds of handcrafts and daily necessities.
What Eguchido values is the gentle overlap between the maker's thoughts and the user's practical experience over the passage of time.
We hope these tools become 'your own' as you touch and continue to use them.
We introduce items that bring a quiet outline to the scenes of daily life.
