Ohtsuki Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tanba City, Hyogo Prefecture, Representative Director and President: Shozo Ohtsuki, hereinafter referred to as "our company"), which operates USIMO, a brand of goods for cattle, has been selling contact cooling neck coolers effective for preventing heatstroke in calves and preventing heat stress-induced weight loss in pre- and post-partum cows since 2020. The eco-friendly and safe neck cooler, which does not use electricity, can be used continuously for long periods due to water retention by its fibers. It cools the blood vessels in the horse's neck more efficiently using ice or coolants, regulating the horse's body temperature. Reports from North India, where temperatures can reach 48 degrees Celsius every summer, indicate that it is effective when applied to horses that are sluggish due to humidity, proving its effectiveness in heat countermeasures. This year, "Mo-tto Cool" has been treated with Phiten processing, adding relaxation and recovery effects. Please use it for maintaining performance and improving horse welfare.

How to use: 1. Wet thoroughly with water (cooling lasts even longer with ice or coolants!!) 2. Wrap around the horse's neck and fasten with hook-and-loop fasteners

USIMO National Caravan - Summer 2025 Last summer, we held the "USIMO National Caravan," exhibiting at livestock markets nationwide from Hokkaido to Okinawa. We received many comments from livestock farmers. One year later, we have materialized many of those voices, and "Mo-tto Cool x Phiten" is complete. To commemorate the launch of the new product, we will hold a national caravan again this summer. You can pick up and check the quality of USIMO products firsthand. We hope that many livestock farmers will learn about our products.

[Background] The situation surrounding heatstroke in horses in recent years has completely shifted from mere "warnings" to "fundamental system changes" since the "historic heatwave" of 2024.

We will organize the latest situation and specific trends.

1. Incidence in 2024 and 2025 It will take time for national statistics on specific "deaths" (including riding horses and farm horses) to be finalized, but the following is known from reports from JRA (Japan Racing Association) and on-site conditions.

2024 (Reiwa 6): Due to record-breaking heat, JRA for the first time implemented "extended racing hours (introduction of siesta)" at Niigata Racecourse. While this measure suppressed severe cases, instances of suspected "mild to moderate heatstroke," such as gait disturbances after races, were still confirmed.

2025 (Reiwa 7): Following the success of the previous year, the siesta system was expanded not only to Niigata but also to Chukyo Racecourse. As a result of strengthened measures, "accidents during races (heart failure or falls due to heatstroke)" are on a downward trend compared to before the measures were introduced.

2. Changes in "symptoms" in recent years Previously, "post-race body temperature rise" was the main indicator, but in recent extreme heat (over 35°C), new risks such as the following have become apparent:

Risk of night grazing: An increasing number of ranches are practicing "night grazing" to avoid the daytime heat, but with temperatures not dropping even at night (tropical nights), horses' basal metabolism decreases, leading to an increase in "accumulated" heatstroke cases where horses are sluggish in the morning.

Risk during transport: Due to outside temperatures exceeding the air conditioning capacity of horse transporters, cases of dehydration are observed upon arrival after long-distance transport.

Recent heatstroke countermeasures for horses have shifted from "cooling (aftercare)" to "avoiding the environment (schedule management)," which has prevented the worst-case scenarios such as fatal accidents.

However, as the period of severe heat is extending, the increased cost of "constant cooling" and the introduction of equipment at general riding clubs and ranches, not just for racehorses, are becoming major challenges for the future.

The neck cooler was originally developed for cattle as an easy heatstroke countermeasure, but it was well-received by those who used it for horses, so we have renewed and will sell it for comfortable use by horses as well.

About the cattle goods brand "USIMO" In 2019, in response to requests from livestock farmers to whom we delivered work clothes, our company launched the "USIMO" project to independently develop and sell cold weather goods for calves.

To date, we have developed electric heated neck warmers, heat storage scarves, drip warmers, high-performance material cold weather coats, zebra-patterned coats, and contact cooling neck coolers.

Since last year, we have also been working on developing heat-related products for animals in general, not limited to cattle.
