Hazuki Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, President: Taichi Morimura), a specialist contractor for glass and fixtures, will mark its second anniversary since the inauguration of its new president in June 2026. Over the past two years since transitioning to the new system, we have promoted dramatic work style reforms. As a result, we are pleased to announce that we have achieved significant improvements in working conditions, increasing our paid leave acquisition rate from 46.2% to 72.6% and raising the number of annual holidays from 105 to 119 days.
Comparison Between Two Years Ago and Now: Dramatic Changes Seen in Numbers
Two years ago, with the launch of our new system, we embarked on internal reforms with the goal of becoming "a company that is easy to work at and is chosen by employees." The challenge of "prioritizing the site and being unable to take time off," common in specialized construction companies, was a significant hurdle for us as well, and the reality was that it was not easily overcome. However, through reviewing operations, establishing a system for requesting leave, and revising company regulations, we have achieved the following significant improvements:
Increase in Paid Leave Acquisition Rate: 46.6% ➡ 72.6%
Increase in Number of Annual Holidays: 105 days ➡ 119 days
Trend of Annual Holidays at Hazuki Co., Ltd.
In two years, our company has significantly increased the number of annual holidays from 105 to 119 days. According to the "2025 Survey on Working Conditions" released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the average total number of annual holidays for Japanese companies is 116.6 days. Our company's figure of "119 annual holidays" is at a similar level to the average total annual holidays of 118.9 days for large corporations with 1,000 or more employees, ensuring a fulfilling number of holidays close to regular calendar days off.

Furthermore, as a result of our work style reforms, we have seen a significant improvement in our paid leave acquisition rate, which has risen from 46.6% to 72.6% over the past two years. The average paid leave acquisition rate in the construction industry in the same survey is 60.7%, but our company's paid leave acquisition rate significantly exceeds this. This also surpasses the average paid leave acquisition rate of 66.9% for all industries and has achieved the target level (70%) aimed for by the country ahead of schedule.
The Key to Change: Creating an Atmosphere Where Taking Leave is Easy
Since the system change in 2024, our company has thoroughly focused on creating an atmosphere where taking time off is easy. Previously, leave requests were made verbally, and employees would take time off based on the site's situation. We switched this to a prior application system using simple application forms, making it possible to adjust work and sites for the purpose of taking leave.
Additionally, prompted by the "regulation on the upper limit of overtime work" due to the Work Style Reform Act in 2024, our business partners have also shifted towards ensuring proper weekends off.
As a result of these measures and circumstances, employees have shifted to a work style that allows them to focus on their tasks and clearly distinguish between work and personal life.
How Work Styles Have Changed: Employee Voices
Ms. A (Sales, Female)
Compared to two years ago, it's definitely an environment where I can take time off. Before, since those around me didn't use paid leave, there was a vicious cycle where it was difficult for me to use it, but now the atmosphere has changed, and I think I can take planned time off.
With more days off, I've started to think about how to manage my work. Even in this situation, because it's a company where I can do proposal-based work, I can work proactively and enjoy it.
Mr. B (Male, Construction Management)
With the increase in annual holidays, I feel like I have more long vacations. With more days off, I can use my time strategically not only to rest my body but also for health promotion. I've had more opportunities to exercise, like cycling, using my leave. While improving work efficiency has become necessary, by thinking about how to shave off even one minute from my daily tasks and working with that mindset, I've been able to achieve even greater performance in less time.
Future Outlook
Our company has implemented work style reforms. President Taichi Morimura states the following:
"The construction industry is often perceived as a place where you can't take time off, and it's true that many young people avoid it. To attract better talent, we want a wide range of people to join us, but in the past, many were not chosen because the working environment was not suitable. However, with the establishment of an environment where people can take time off, I feel that more people are becoming interested than before. We will not be satisfied with the current situation and will continue our reforms. First, our goal is to have holidays that align with the calendar. Next, we want to create special company-specific holidays, such as for health check-ups."
Hazuki Co., Ltd. will continue to propose new ways of working that are not bound by industry norms, for business people rooted in the community and for future colleagues considering joining us.
