This production is a stage reinterpretation of Osamu Tezuka's 'Phoenix' as a live performance where manga is "experienced by everyone." Through staging elements like giant LEDs and robotic arms, it unfolds as a new manga experience where the sensation of turning pages and immersion in the story are shared throughout the venue.
Sekisai was responsible for the design and production of sculptural elements that constitute part of the stage set for this performance.
The overall form is inspired by a bird resting with its wings folded, achieving smooth curves and organic shapes through 3D printing.
Production of Stage Art Using Recycled Materials
Recycled plastic is used for the materials. Stage art is often newly produced for each performance, and it is not uncommon for it to be discarded after use.
In this production, materials that can be crushed and reused as raw materials again after use were adopted. This allows for the material to be circulated rather than discarded after the performance ends.
Even in the realm of stage art, we have achieved manufacturing that does not assume disposal from production, thereby reducing environmental impact.
Sekisai specializes in spatial expression utilizing 3D printing and is engaged in cross-disciplinary production, including stage art like this project.
Alongside the new manga experience born through this performance, please also pay attention to the sculptural expressions that constitute the space.
