Kumamoto Prefectural Television (KKT) will produce and release a video for the residents of Kumamoto Prefecture, marking the 10th anniversary of the Kumamoto Earthquake that occurred in April 2016.
About the Campaign
10 years since the Kumamoto Earthquake. KKT has walked with Kumamoto and continued to watch over its progress. Since that night, we have continued our respective daily lives—this campaign is to stay close to the 10 years of each individual resident of Kumamoto and send them our support. To capture everyday scenes, filming was conducted in Mashiki Town, which experienced two magnitude 7 earthquakes during the Kumamoto Earthquake, as well as various other locations across the prefecture. The video was produced with creators from Kumamoto, while gathering the voices of the residents.

This campaign, which begins with "10 years have passed," is a message of support from KKT, living together in Kumamoto. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the earthquake, we wondered what kind of message would be appropriate for us to convey. We discussed it many times, and during that process, we strongly felt, "We want it to be something that ultimately inspires hope." Some people may not talk much about the earthquake, saying, "There are others who have suffered more." However, everyone must have spent time harboring anxieties, sorrows, and fears. Nevertheless, we hope that you can be proud of having accumulated each day over these 10 years. Let us continue to live together in the land of Kumamoto.

People working at department stores in Torimachi. People waiting for trams at the Shinmachi tram stop. People waiting at red lights in Uto. People strolling along the rice paddy paths in Mashiki. Among those living in Kumamoto, there is not a single person who was not wounded by that earthquake. Everyone has stood up from it, and while sometimes stopping, they have moved forward. These 10 years must have been such a time. We wanted to pay our respects to the 10 years of everyone living in Kumamoto. We want them to realize anew, and be proud of, just how amazing that was. With that sentiment, we are launching this campaign.
Comment from Singer-Songwriter, Masaki Shigaki
10 years since the Kumamoto Earthquake. Our second son, who was in my wife's womb at the time, is now 10 years old. The sight of cars and people from outside the prefecture that I saw on the way to evacuate my pregnant wife and eldest daughter to Nagasaki, the joy when water came out of the faucet. It feels like yesterday that I shed tears over the preciousness of daily life, which I had taken for granted until then.
This time, I have remade a song from 18 years ago based on the CM concept. I wanted to praise with song the days when people who looked up at the same sky in despair that day have walked strongly to live, carrying their respective pains. As if moonlight gently shines a spotlight on everyone... I put those feelings into the song.
