Mirai Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, Representative Director: Toshiharu Yamaguchi), which operates the Mirai Beauty Science Laboratory, conducted an "Awareness Survey on Skincare, Pores, and Lifestyle Habits*1" in June 2026 targeting 100 women aged 40-60.

The results revealed that 81% of women aged 40-60 are concerned about their pores, and the top situation where pores are a concern is "Looking at own face on smartphone/mirror" (68%). I'm PINCH proposes skincare that balances the skin with the power of fermentation, while addressing the real concerns of consumers.

"Closer Distance Than a Mirror" Makes One Aware of Pores

Previously, the only opportunity to see one's face was in front of the bathroom mirror. However, smartphones are now in our hands all day long. Video calls, social media, checking grooming with the front camera – without realizing it, we now see our faces at a distance of a few centimeters, a distance not possible with a mirror.

This survey revealed that 81% of women aged 40-60 have concerns about their pores. Why have so many women become concerned about their pores?

Top "Situation Where Pores Are a Concern" Revealed in Survey

In response to the question "In what situations are your pores a concern (up to 2 answers)?", "Talking to people at close range" (45%) and "When taking photos/videos" (27%) were ranked high, but the most frequent answer was "Looking at own face on smartphone/mirror" (68%).

Smartphones Have Changed the "Distance" to One's Own Face

The front camera of a smartphone is often used at a close distance of 15-25 cm. Seeing oneself on screen during video calls or selfies has become a daily reality.

Smartphones have now become like "portable mirrors," and the increased opportunities to see one's face may be one of the triggers for becoming aware of pores. Changes in the "environment of visibility" may be behind the concerns about pores.

The fact that many people feel that "pore concerns have increased in recent years" is thought to be related not only to changes in the skin itself but also to such changes in daily lifestyle habits.

"Visualization of Concerns" Becomes a New Social Issue

According to a survey by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (2023), the household ownership rate of smartphones has reached 90.6%. Almost all of these are equipped with front cameras, and the number of users of video call apps has significantly increased since the COVID-19 pandemic*2.

While technological advancements make life more convenient, they have also given rise to new habits such as "continuously viewing one's appearance in high resolution at close range."

The worsening of pore concerns is not only a skincare issue but also a new issue of self-image created by modern lifestyle habits.

What is Needed for Modern Pore Care

This survey has shown the fact that pore concerns may be deeply linked not just to skin problems but also to changes in daily lifestyle habits. In an era where we live with smartphones, approaches to pore care will need to consider these changes in lifestyle habits.

"Because it's an era where things are visible, we will address it from the root" – I'm PINCH confronts the pore concerns of modern women through skincare that balances the skin from within with the power of fermentation.
