JPI to Host Cabinet Secretariat Seminar on Investment Support for Japanese Companies Expanding Overseas

JPI, the Japan Planning Institute, will host a seminar featuring Yoshitomo Kondo, Counsellor at the Cabinet Secretariat’s Global Business Investment Support Office. The seminar will provide a detailed explanation of investment support measures, challenges, and future outlook for Japanese companies with strong technologies and ambition seeking to expand their business overseas. The seminar will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 09:30 to 11:30. Applications for archived streaming will also be accepted after the seminar has ended. The lecturer is Yoshitomo Kondo, Counsellor at the Global Business Investment Support Office of the Cabinet Secretariat. Practical insights offered by the seminar include perspectives on using dispersed government support measures in a cross-cutting manner, concrete processes for forming partnerships with foreign governments and local companies, and ways to realize overseas investment through public-private collaboration starting from GBIS. The seminar is intended for corporate planning and business development divisions responsible for overseas business expansion, trading companies and manufacturers involved in emerging-market and infrastructure projects, financial institutions and funds handling overseas investment and international business, and public-sector or local government personnel responsible for public-private partnerships and international projects. The Cabinet Secretariat’s Global Business Investment Support Office was established in August 2022 to support overseas business investment by companies with technology and ambition through a unified government approach. Its ultimate goal is to help Japanese companies realize overseas business opportunities by forming partnership agreements with host-country governments, local companies, and other stakeholders. To achieve this, the office acts as a hub connecting diverse public and private players involved in overseas business expansion. It focuses on helping companies efficiently and effectively use the many available support tools that match their needs. This seminar will explain the office’s activities, current challenges, and future outlook. Lecture topics include the background, purpose, and overall activities of the Global Business Investment Support Office; concrete activities and case examples, including coordination among ministries, agencies, and government bodies, understanding corporate needs, collaboration with local governments, overseas diplomatic missions, and multilateral development banks; challenges and outlook; Q&A; and a business card and information exchange session. In addition to direct dialogue and Q&A with a lecturer who is usually difficult to meet, participants will have opportunities to network across industries and sectors, gaining practical information and potential leads for new collaboration. Participation options include in-person attendance, live streaming, and archived streaming. In-person and live-stream participants may add archived streaming for a special price of JPY 18,500 including tax. The standard fee is JPY 37,600 per person including tax. As a benefit, one additional participant from the same corporation may attend free of charge per paid participant, with registration required. Members of local public bodies may attend for JPY 11,000 including tax for up to two participants, limited to in-person or live-stream participation.
