It's been one year since the legendary Guinness World Record was updated...
Since achieving the Guinness World Record last May, the 4th generation owner had been racking his brains daily.
"What should we do next year...?"
He had decided to hold an event every year on "Orosihisoba Day," but having set a world record that he probably couldn't surpass, he honestly couldn't think of any more ideas.
Unusually for the 4th generation owner, no ideas came to him no matter how long he waited...
One day, he had the opportunity to speak with Chairman Takeuchi of "Lovely Partner Elpa," a commercial facility that has been very supportive of Munechika Soba Elpa store.
"Back then, Mr. Nakayama of Piriken* also worked hard to establish orosihisoba culture in Fukui, just like you," "At that time, he planned to invite many people every year to eat their fill of soba," "Those were fun memories of eating plenty of soba with various people."
*Father of the current President Nakayama of a long-established Chinese and Soba restaurant group (e.g., "Piriken Ramen" and "Menbo Tsurutsuru") founded in 1921 (Taisho 10) with headquarters in Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture.
Upon reflection, the motivation behind the previous Guinness World Record challenges was the same.
From children to the elderly, prefectural residents eat their fill of orosihisoba.
To preserve those happy memories and pass on the orosihisoba culture to the next generation.
It was at that moment he realized it was important for the future "Orosihisoba Day" events to inherit that fundamental spirit.
Starting this year, it will no longer be a Guinness World Record challenge, but an event where Fukui residents can eat their fill of "orosihisoba" and thoroughly enjoy "orosihisoba"!
We decided to make this an event where this fundamental principle remains unchanged.
Just as people in Japan eat unagi (eel) on Doyo-no-Ushi Day, Fukui residents will feast on orosihisoba on "Orosihisoba Day"!
We are holding this event with a dream of such a food culture taking root in Fukui.
This time, too, it's a once-a-year generous offering.
Hoping that the local children, who will carry on the next noodle culture, will come to love Fukui's soba even more, there's also a "Kids' Soba Zero Yen" project!
Families, two-generation, three-generation, four-generation families, couples, friends – we look forward to welcoming many visitors!
