Oomishima Minna no Winery is pleased to announce the release of the 'Artist Series Vol.2: Tadanori Yokoo' red and white wines.

This series invites globally renowned artists close to Toyo Ito, the winery's representative and architect, to design labels for Oomishima wines, blending art with wine crafted on the Seto Inland Sea island to share its charm with the world. For the second installment, the winery has commissioned Tadanori Yokoo, the internationally celebrated painter, to create the labels. To match these two exceptional artworks, we have prepared red and white wines made from grapes grown on Oomishima. For the red wine, we used the 2022 vintage of Muscat Bailey A, considered the finest recent harvest, aged to perfection. For the white wine, we selected the 2024 vintage Chardonnay, fermented and aged in oak barrels to create a special, refined wine. We hope you look forward to the collaborative release of 'Artist Series Vol.2: Tadanori Yokoo'—a fusion of Yokoo's art and wine from a small island in the Seto Inland Sea.

'Shima Akai Grand Cuvée 2022'

Varietal: 100% Muscat Bailey A

Volume: 750ml

Alcohol: 12%

Production: 270 bottles

A red wine made entirely from 2022-harvest Oomishima-grown Muscat Bailey A, released after two years of bottle aging. The 2022 vintage was exceptionally good, yielding deeply colored, concentrated grapes. The wine offers aromas of strawberry jam and ripe red fruits, complemented by vanilla-like notes from oak aging, resulting in a rich, vibrant character. Nuances of pepper and spice add depth—ideal for enjoying the complexity developed through aging.

'Shima Shiroi Grand Cuvée 2024'

Varietal: 100% Chardonnay
Volume: 750ml
Alcohol: 11%
Production: 270 bottles

Made entirely from 2024-harvest Oomishima-grown Chardonnay. This year saw higher temperatures than usual, leading to water stress that increased ripeness and sugar levels, resulting in the best Chardonnay harvest in recent years. The wine shows a golden hue, with aromas of yellow peach and tropical fruits, harmonizing beautifully with buttery, butterscotch-like notes from French oak barrels. Paired with its label evoking a tropical landscape, the wine delivers a lush, cheerful impression.

About Oomishima Minna no Winery

Cultivating wine grapes in vineyards overlooking the sea ▲ 'Artist Series Vol.1: Kohei Nawa' (sold out)

Oomishima, located in Ehime Prefecture within the Seto Inland Sea, lies along the Shimanami Kaido connecting Honshu and Shikoku. At the initiative of architect and winery representative Toyo Ito, abandoned citrus orchards were revived into vineyards, with grape cultivation beginning in 2015. Local farmers and staff who relocated to the island for winemaking work together to produce island-grown wines. In 2019, the winery built its own fermentation facility on the island, enabling full control from cultivation to winemaking. The winery aims to craft compelling wines that express the unique terroir of Oomishima and actively promotes Japanese wine and the Seto Inland Sea’s charm globally, including through exports to Europe.
