Major Gourmet Event "Unagi, New Discoveries. in Yokohama Chinatown" to be Held in Summer 2026 with 34 Participating Restaurants

A new culinary experience where traditional eel culture meets Chinese cuisine. Limited-time 3,000 yen discount coupons will also be distributed. Yokohama Chinatown Development Association Cooperative will host, in conjunction with Tomosei Trading Co., Ltd., Heiei Foods Co., Ltd., and others, the limited-time summer gourmet event "Unagi, New Discoveries. in Yokohama Chinatown" from Saturday, July 18, 2026, to Friday, July 31, 2026. For this project, 34 restaurants in Yokohama Chinatown will participate, offering a total of 39 limited-edition eel menu items. Under the theme of "Eel x Chinese Cuisine," each chef will provide original menus with their unique ideas.

A New Challenge Where Japan's "Eel Culture" Meets Chinese Cuisine In Japan, the culture of eating eel on "Doyo no Ushi no Hi" (the day of the ox in the hottest period of summer) has been passed down for a long time. Eel, rich in nutrients, is a popular and auspicious ingredient for overcoming the hot summer. Meanwhile, Yokohama Chinatown, which has been conveying the food culture of various regions of China to Japan for over 160 years, is Japan's largest Chinatown. This town, where diverse Chinese cuisines such as Sichuan, Cantonese, Shanghai, and Taiwanese cuisine gather, is also a symbol of food culture exchange between Japan and China. This event will fuse "eel," a representative Japanese ingredient, with the rich cooking techniques unique to Chinese cuisine.

Limited Menus Created by Each Participating Restaurant - A dish seasoned with spices unique to Sichuan cuisine - Dishes utilizing the delicate heat control of Cantonese cuisine - Rich flavors of Shanghai cuisine - Creative dishes with Taiwanese cuisine And more, limited menus will be offered, leveraging the unique characteristics of each restaurant. You can enjoy new surprises and discoveries beyond the conventional images of "kabayaki" and "unaju," such as "I never knew eel could be prepared like this." 3,000 Yen Eel Dish Discount Coupons to be Distributed in Limited Quantities During the event period, 3,000 yen discount coupons for eel dishes, usable at participating restaurants, will be distributed daily in limited quantities at the Yokohama Chinatown Information Center "Chinatown80."
