Suginami Kokaido was constructed in 1957 (Showa 32) with the aim of promoting culture. For 46 years, it has been widely used for classical performances such as orchestras, as well as choir and jazz concerts, television recordings, and ceremonies. Subsequently, in 2006, it was reopened with a refined architectural design based on the theme "Harmony of Light and Wind," and equipped with an excellent acoustic environment.

Thanks to your support, Suginami Kokaido will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, 2026.

For this anniversary year, with the tagline "20 Years of Gratitude, Towards New Inspiration," we will present concerts, primarily classical, and enjoyable projects.

This article introduces the performances organized by our hall and co-hosted performances.

Concerts by the professional orchestra based at our hall, the [Japan Philharmonic Orchestra], embarked on a new journey in 2025 as the "Suginami Subscription Concerts."

As this year marks the 20th anniversary of Suginami Kokaido and the 70th anniversary of the Japan Philharmonic, the performers and programs are planned to be even more spectacular.

For the 81st to 83rd Suginami Subscription Concerts, we will welcome Japan's leading pianists, Michie Koyama, Kaoru Jitsukawa, and Naoko Kawamura, to perform Beethoven, Grieg, and Rachmaninoff's piano concertos, which are considered the [Four Great Piano Concertos] and are immensely popular and familiar in Japan.

Joining each pianist will be conductors Kenichiro Kobayashi, Honorary Conductor Laureate of the Japan Philharmonic; Tomomi Nishimoto, who previously built music with the Japan Philharmonic as a music partner and continues to collaborate; and Okko Kamu, who will perform in Suginami for the first time in approximately 20 years with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.

For the 84th concert, conductor Sourito Matsumoto will make his debut at Suginami Kokaido.

Together with violinist Kaoru Oe, two young musicians, both in their early 30s and at a stage of maturing as artists, will present Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and Brahms's Symphony No. 1, popular among classical fans, embodying "the classical music of the future."

For the 85th concert, Junichi Hirokami, a Friend of JPO, will appear. In a first attempt at Suginami Kokaido, a [Taiga Drama] theme song will be featured, following the dramas of various "innovators." Additionally, cellist Yuya Mizuno, who became the first Asian to win the 76th Prague Spring International Music Competition in 2025, will perform the cello concerto he championed.
