Maruman Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 405 Nishiwaki, Nishiwaki City, Hyogo Prefecture; President: Junpei Maruyama), which develops the Banshu-ori apparel brand "POLS", will open its first flagship store "POLSTORE Nishiwaki" on May 30, 2026. This new store is a renovation of a 122-year-old traditional folk house designed with the worldview of POLS. It also features a cafe offering specialty coffee, delivering a special experience to our customers.

Renovation of the residence of the founder, "Manemon Maruyama", established in 1901

The building is a renovation of the residence of the founder, "Manemon Maruyama", who started the business in 1898, and the building itself was newly built in 1904. Triggered by the passing of Mikiyo Maruyama (wife of the 5th generation Manemon Maruyama) in 2024, leaving the house vacant, a renovation project began with the aim of preservation and regional revitalization.

Features and services of the store "POLSTORE Nishiwaki"

As a feature of "POLSTORE Nishiwaki", in addition to its role as a flagship store where you can enjoy the full lineup of the Banshu-ori factory brand "POLS", we aim to provide a special experience to our customers through products selected based on the themes of "clothing", "food", and "living", as well as our cafe services.

"POLS", a brand that conveys the "joy of textiles"

"POLS" has continued to create products that overturn the concept of Banshu-ori. Currently, centered around apparel, we offer scarves, ties, bags, handkerchiefs, stools, and more. This time, "umbrellas" and "cushion covers" will be introduced as new products.

POLS is an apparel brand focusing mainly on jacquard weaves, started with textile designer Kanako Kajiwara.

"COQ", a brand proposing a "lifestyle of breathing deeply in nature"

From the brand "COQ" by Kanako Kajiwara, who handles the creative direction and textile design of "POLS", we will offer popular products such as socks, towels, and wear.

Towels with excellent moisture absorption using Asano Nenshi SUPER ZERO's high-quality cotton.

Selling Japanese sake "Tamanohikari" in the sake rice producing area

As a local specialty, we also handle the Japanese sake "Tamanohikari", which uses "Yamada Nishiki" sake rice born in the Harima region—the production area of Banshu-ori—and its ancestral rice "Omachi". This sake will be used for the Kagami-biraki (barrel-breaking) ceremony on the opening day. You can enjoy traditional handmade "Junmai-shu" made with good rice, good water, and koji.

"Tamanohikari" is a sake brewery from Fushimi, Kyoto.

Specialty coffee served at "KUMA HIGE CAFE"

We offer an original coffee blend produced jointly with the roastery "CINEMA COFFEE ROASTERS" in Nishiwaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, allowing you to spend an elegant time looking out over the garden of the residence. You can also enjoy authentic Indian black tea provided by "Tea Shop Parvati".

What project leader Junpei Maruyama wants to convey: "The Evolution of Tradition"

"Protecting tradition doesn't mean doing things exactly as they have been done in the past, but it is also important to adapt methods to suit the times and continue," he believes. We aim to be a shop that can add new value to traditional things and propose a clothing, food, and housing lifestyle that fits today's living. We want to make it a place where customers can truly feel the value by targeting products that are somewhat higher in price. By doing so, we believe we can contribute to further enhancing the brand image of Banshu-ori.

About Maruman Co., Ltd.

We manufacture and sell Banshu-ori textile products in Nishiwaki City, Hyogo Prefecture. Founded in 1901, we laid the foundation of the production area by introducing numerous jacquard looms during its dawn. We were quick to introduce mechanical looms and worked hard to popularize them, creating an era from the 1970s to the 1990s where mass production and high-quality manufacturing were possible. Currently, while production volume has decreased, we have established our own unique jacquard technology and produce materials that support high-end maison brands both domestically and internationally.
