Hata Inc. (Representative Director: Takeaki Higashiyama) announced that "The Moving Yokai Exhibition TOKYO ~Imagination of Japan~," which it produced (held from Friday, March 27, 2026, to Sunday, June 28, 2026, in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo (Terrada Warehouse G1 Building)), has exceeded 50,000 visitors, and a commemorative ceremony was held.
The 50,000th visitors were a group of nine kimono event participants from Saitama Prefecture. They were presented with commemorative goods including the official program (official catalog) of "The Moving Yokai Exhibition," original muffler towels, original printed cookies, and clear files.
The group of nine shared their impressions, saying, "It was more immersive than I expected, like entering the world of Yokai," "It was fun finding hidden Yokai," "The scent of wisteria was lovely, and I enjoyed it with all five senses," and "I discovered that there are even these kinds of Yokai."
This event is the world's first immersive, experiential digital art museum where visitors can delve into Japan's proud Yokai art, such as "Hyakki Yagyo Emaki" (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons), "Hyakumonogatari" (Tales of the Supernatural), "Oni" (demons), "Tengu" (long-nosed goblins), "Kappa" (water imps), and "Tsukumogami" (animate tools), depicted by various artists from the Edo and Meiji periods, using cutting-edge video technology and three-dimensional sculptures.
Born from the rich imagination of ancient Japanese myths and legends, Japanese Yokai have been loved by people worldwide across generations. Their humorous figures, depicted in Yokai paintings and caricatures, are dynamically brought to life using state-of-the-art digital technologies such as 3DCG, projection mapping, and holographic screens, while three-dimensional sculptures recreate a realistic world of Yokai.
Furthermore, with the cooperation of Nishio City Iwase Bunko Library, Japan's first museum of ancient books, and the Yokai Art Museum in Shodoshima, the exhibition not only provides explanations of Yokai culture, Yokai paintings, caricatures, and Yokai art but also unravels the culture and history of Yokai connected to modern pop culture.
Step into the captivating "YOKAI" world and enjoy a new sensory art entertainment exhibition where adults and children alike can "enjoy, learn, and experience" Yokai culture.
