Small Luxury Hotel in Kyoto's Maruyama Park: REAL × CURIOSITY Jointly Reconstructs Historic Ryokan

REAL Co., Ltd. (hereinafter REAL/Location: Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City, Representative Director: Koshichiro Tanpo), which operates a total of 73 hotels and machiya properties with 412 rooms (as of May 2026, including planned openings) in Kyoto City, and CURIOSITY (hereinafter CURIOSITY/Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Representative: Gwenael Nicolas), a Tokyo-based design studio active globally, have jointly launched a small luxury hotel project within Kyoto's Maruyama Park.

The name of the facility born from this project will be 'KYOTO YOSHIMIZU -Kyoto Yoshimizu-'.

While inheriting the name of the historic 'Ryokan Yoshimizu', the project aims to create new accommodation value by renovating its architecture and fusing the knowledge and creativity of both parties.

■ Project Concept

The concept of 'KYOTO YOSHIMIZU -Kyoto Yoshimizu-' is 'Dream of Kyoto'.

CURIOSITY designed the hotel with inspiration from the scenes that come to mind when one thinks of Kyoto: light, dynamism, a place filled with deep mystery, and nature blending with space and light.

By layering Kyoto's foresight, its future form, and the ideal image of Kyoto that people envision, which have always been ahead of their time, onto the historic ryokan architecture of Yoshimizu, a new perspective of Kyoto is embodied in the space.

Through buildings, art, food, and heartfelt hospitality meticulously curated for Kyoto, we will provide guests with a special experience and relaxation during their stay.

■ Facility Features

'KYOTO YOSHIMIZU -Kyoto Yoshimizu-', born as a new inn while regenerating a historic ryokan located in Kyoto's Maruyama Park and inheriting its charm, carefully preserves the flow of time and character etched into the architecture. By reinterpreting Kyoto's charm with an eye to the future and weaving it into the design, the space where past, present, and future quietly harmonize creates an extraordinary moment.

For the exterior design, the traditional wooden architecture, with over 100 years of history, which has aged alongside Maruyama Park, is utilized. It welcomes guests with an elegant appearance that harmonizes with the surrounding landscape.

In contrast to the exterior, the salon and garden feature a fantastical design that foreshadows the future of Kyoto. From the large windows opening towards the garden, guests can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons.

The salon service offers all-day drinks and meals tailored to the time of day, from breakfast to evening bar time, provided as all-inclusive for staying guests.

Guests can start their day enveloped in the soft morning light, gazing at the garden that changes its expression with each season.

Furthermore, while utilizing the structure of the existing architecture, the guest rooms ensure comfortable spaciousness and modern functionality, adopting a spatial design unique to Japanese architecture that provides a sense of being enveloped.

The guest room spaces, including the bathrooms, incorporate the color of cherry blossoms, which were the symbolic tree of Ryokan Yoshimizu, and are designed to evoke a connection with the scenery of Maruyama Park.

■ Services

'KYOTO YOSHIMIZU -Kyoto Yoshimizu-', which will be REAL's flagship hotel, is a small luxury hotel limited to 4 groups per day. Beyond just the building design and specifications, it also focuses on improving service quality and will form a new service team.

Distinguishing itself from large luxury hotels, it offers meticulous and warm hospitality that can only be achieved through close interaction with staff. Guests can enjoy a truly relaxing stay with the comfort of returning to a private residence and natural, unobtrusive service.

Additionally, a staff system capable of concierge services will be established, providing total support including suggestions for stays in Kyoto and further travel plans.

We propose new stay value for guests who wish to cherish their own time away from the hustle and bustle, and those who seek authentic, non-formal hospitality.

Under the concept of 'Dream of Kyoto', we aim to deliver a Kyoto stay that remains in your heart as a memory, making you want to return again.
