Raccan Co., Ltd. (Location: Shibushi City, Kagoshima Prefecture; Representative Director: Takashi Takemoto; hereinafter, Raccan) will open "HOTEL RACCAN," a hotel renovated from the Edo-period samurai residence "Kinoshita Residence" and the Meiji-period merchant house "Yamanaka Residence," along with "Yamanaka Shoten," a rice ball and set meal restaurant, and "Base Honten," a beauty salon (hereinafter, "the facility"), in Shibushi City, Kagoshima Prefecture, on May 1, 2026. "Bakery Raccando" and "HOUVI CHEESECAKE," a cheesecake specialty store, will open this summer. 【Background of the Renovation Project】 Shibushi, once the foremost port town of the Satsuma Domain. In this area, which forms a characteristic townscape of a port town, the aim is to maintain the historical townscape and extend the stay duration of visitors by utilizing vacant historical buildings. For this purpose, two properties have been renovated: ① the city-owned "Kinoshita Residence (vacant house)" (a valuable samurai residence built in the Edo period remaining in Shibushi Fumoto) and ② the city-owned "Yamanaka Residence (vacant house)" (a merchant house of a wealthy merchant from the Meiji period remaining in Sengen-cho, which prospered through smuggling). These two properties will be reborn as a dispersed traditional house hotel, dining facilities, and a beauty salon. Through this project, we aim to create livelihoods that leverage Shibushi's unique value, increase future tourism consumption in the region, and connect to the dissemination of regional resources and the sustainable development of businesses. 【Historical and Cultural Background of the Area】 Shibushi has been a bustling port (tsu) town with active trade since around the Kamakura period. "Shibushi Fumoto (Japan Heritage)," where samurai gathered and lived from the late Heian period, and the ruins of "Shibushi Castle," a mountain castle built in the Middle Ages, still remain today.
