【You-Me Life Group】Grant Scholarship for Tokai University New Students Supports a Cumulative Total of 70 Students Over 8 Years

You-Me Life Group has been operating a grant scholarship program for new students at Tokai University Shonan Campus since 2019, marking its 8th year in the 2026 academic year. The cumulative number of students supported has reached 70.

[Background] Student life hit hard by rising prices, and a move towards communication

According to the "61st Survey on Student Life Conditions" (2025) by the National Federation of University Co-operative Associations, living expenses for students living away from home have increased due to rising prices, while there is a noticeable trend of cutting back on learning and lifestyle-related expenses such as book fees and cultural/recreational expenses. Furthermore, the Japan Student Services Organization's "FY2022 Survey on Student Life" revealed that the scholarship recipient rate among university students is 55.0%, indicating that more than one in two students require financial assistance.

Amidst this situation, our group has quietly continued this program since 2019. However, with the 2026 academic year, we have decided to establish a system to re-communicate our relationship with the community and our social value, and to announce the 8-year journey and achievements of the program.

◼︎ Program Overview

Eligibility: New students at Tokai University Shonan Campus who reside in properties managed by the group.

Amount: 10,000 yen per month x 24 months (total 240,000 yen, non-repayable)

Selection: Reviewed and decided from applicants each year.

A system connecting housing, scholarships, and the community

Welcome party (approx. 100 participants)

Monthly exchange events include reporting sessions for rental owners on "housing proposals from a student perspective" and work experience, as well as community programs where scholarship students themselves provide advice to younger students from their alma mater who are considering advancing to the same university.

This cycle is what our group considers to be a form of regional contribution.

In addition, a welcome party attended by approximately 100 people is held at the time of enrollment, serving as a place to alleviate anxieties about new student life.

Communication between staff and students

The grant period is currently 24 months (2 years), but it was initially 1 year when the program started.

As we continued to operate, we faced the challenge that "connections among students would be severed when the support period ended," so we extended it to 2 years.

By fostering "vertical connections" where senior scholarship students pass on their experience and knowledge to their juniors, we aim to create a foundation where students can take root in the community and grow together with their peers.

The program continues to evolve based on student feedback and insights from the field.
