100th Anniversary of 'System PH'. Louis Poulsen Launches Limited Edition 'PH Centenary Collection'

Otsuka Kagu, a division of Yamada Denki Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Otsuka Kagu), has begun handling the special limited edition 'PH Centenary Collection' from the Danish lighting brand 'Louis Poulsen,' founded in 1874. This collection commemorates the 100th anniversary of the innovative lighting design 'System PH'.

About System PH

In 1926, the iconic '3-shade system' was developed by Poul Henningsen (1894–1967), a designer, architect, and cultural critic. This revolutionary design system, later known as 'System PH,' is built upon meticulously calculated shade configurations, ideal angles, and rational forms. This design philosophy, which shields against glare from light bulbs and delivers high-quality light where needed, continues to be at the core of Louis Poulsen's lighting design. To celebrate this momentous 100th anniversary, the 'PH Centenary Collection' has been created, conveying Poul Henningsen's heritage design to the modern era. This model is a revival of a masterpiece that was featured in Louis Poulsen's catalog from 1933 to the mid-1960s and was affectionately known as the "Bombardment Chandelier." It marks the first time the smallest "PH 1/1" in the "System PH" range has been reissued, combining aged brass with delicate hairline processing on the body and mouth-blown milky glass in a dusty terracotta color. While compact, its dense and beautiful light enriches the space. Each product is hand-engraved with a serial number, making it a collector's item available in globally limited quantities.

Based on an early model announced in 1927, this product is a modern revival that faithfully adheres to the original principles of the "3-shade system" established by Poul Henningsen in 1926. It features amber glass for the top shade and milky glass for the middle and bottom shades. The glass shades, polished on the outside and matte sandblasted on the inside, create a pleasant, glare-free light. When lit, the upward-spreading warm amber light beautifully merges with the soft white light reaching downwards, bringing rich expression and accent to the space. The base and pillar are made of lacquered aged brass, a material that, combined with the amber glass, tells a story of 100 years of history, creating a vintage feel.
