Mediva Inc. (Headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Kanoko Oishi), a provider of healthcare consulting services, is pleased to announce that its representative Kanoko Oishi is scheduled to speak at the '1st Hokkaido Community Hospital Study Group' to be held in Sapporo on Friday, July 3, 2026.

Under the theme of the future of small and medium-sized hospitals, home care, and general medicine in Hokkaido, this study group will not focus on polished success stories, but rather serve as a venue for sharing practices, struggles, and questions from the frontlines of community healthcare in Hokkaido.

Background: Sharing Practices and Questions of Local Healthcare in the Context of Hokkaido

Population decline, maldistribution of doctors, vast healthcare zones, connection with home care, and multi-professional collaboration—the challenges surrounding local healthcare are common throughout Japan.

Among them, Hokkaido presents these challenges in a more complex manner on the ground, under conditions where medical resources and personnel are scattered across a vast land area. Local small and medium-sized hospitals are increasingly required to serve not only as providers of inpatient care but also as hubs connecting outpatient care, home care, nursing care, and the community.

On the other hand, there are very few opportunities to bring together practical experiences and concerns from the field and speak frankly across positions and professions on these themes. Therefore, the '1st Hokkaido Community Hospital Study Group' has been established.

Objectives of the Study Group

The Hokkaido Community Hospital Study Group has three major objectives:

1. Facilitating encounters among those interested in community hospitals in Hokkaido

Creating a place where people who share common interests and challenges in local small and medium-sized hospitals, home care, general medicine, and multi-professional collaboration can meet in person and exchange words. We emphasize flat connections among multiple professions, including not only doctors but also nurses, rehabilitation specialists, MSWs, pharmacists, care managers, administrative staff, and management planners.

2. Frankly sharing practices and challenges at each region and facility

This study group is not a place to present perfected success stories. It is a venue for frankly sharing what is actually being done on the ground, successful tips, and struggles or mismatches such as 'things are not progressing as expected' or 'this part is difficult.'

3. Thinking about the possibilities of community hospitals in the context of Hokkaido

Instead of presenting 'community hospital' as the only correct answer, we view it as an auxiliary guideline for thinking about local healthcare in Hokkaido. We will collectively think, based on frontline sensibilities, about what can be done and what is difficult under conditions such as wide-area geography and staff shortages.
