The DeasyCare Project opened the 'DeasyCare Innovation Center' on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, within YRP (Yokosuka Research Park) in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, as a hub for research, development, demonstration, and exhibition of the diaper shredding system 'DeasyCare'.
Background of the Opening
With the progression of aging society, the volume of used disposable diapers discharged from care and childcare facilities is increasing year by year. The Ministry of the Environment has set a target for 150 municipalities to implement or consider initiatives for recycling and reuse of used diapers by 2030, making proper diaper disposal a pressing social issue.
For resource circulation of used diapers, both 'entry technologies'—which separate and clean collected diapers by material—and 'exit technologies'—which utilize the separated materials as recycled resources or fuel—are essential. While exit technologies, such as pulp recycling and solid fuel production, are advancing in various regions, the development of entry technologies that enable hygienic on-site pre-treatment of used diapers in facilities, preparing them for collection and recycling, remains insufficient.
DeasyCare is a system that, upon input of used diapers, performs shredding, waste separation, cleaning, disinfection, and dehydration in a single unit. By enabling on-site pre-treatment, it aims to reduce staff workload, improve hygiene conditions, and serve as a gateway to future resource circulation.
Facility Overview
The DeasyCare Innovation Center serves the following functions:
- Display and demonstration of the actual DeasyCare unit (from late July)
- Consultations and exchanges with facility managers considering adoption, municipal and government officials, and partner companies
- Analysis of data collected from demonstration projects
- Research and development for next-generation models
Currently, social demonstration projects in care facilities are being planned, and the Innovation Center will serve as the core hub for their operation and analysis.
Future Developments
The DeasyCare Project will collect data on processing performance, safety, and on-site operations through demonstration projects to improve the system and establish a viable business model. The project aims to commercialize the technology through collaboration with a wide range of partners, including facility operators, municipalities, diaper manufacturers, and leasing and maintenance companies.
