Hotel Plaza Osaka participated in the relocation project of the large mural "Kibo no Keifu," created in front of the West Gate of EXPO2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo. Through providing the installation site and other means, the hotel has been advancing efforts to connect the culture born at the Expo to the daily life of the community.
This work was originally scheduled to be dismantled after the Expo. However, driven by the desire to preserve the memories and emotions of the Expo for the future, rather than letting them be temporary, the Yodokabe Executive Committee launched a crowdfunding campaign. Thanks to extensive support, the relocation was successfully realized.
The crowdfunding campaign exceeded its target of 3 million yen, ultimately raising approximately 6.06 million yen from 245 supporters. Through the empathy of many people, the Expo art, which was destined for demolition, has now been passed on to the Juso district, taking on a new role as public art open to the community.
A New Public Art Piece Accessible to Everyone.
"Kibo no Keifu" is a large mural, approximately 4.5 meters high and 12 meters wide, created on the theme of the lineage of Japanese popular art, continuing from Edo period Ukiyo-e to the present day.
During the Expo, many visitors stopped, took photos, and gave it significant attention. After relocation, it will be permanently exhibited on the Hotel Plaza Osaka premises, becoming public art freely viewable not only by hotel guests but also by local residents and tourists.
The aim is not merely to preserve the work but to integrate it into the everyday landscape as "open art," where visitors can easily stop by, take photos, and take memories home with them.

This mural is also positioned as a new base for the "Yodokabe" mural project, which is developing in the Osaka-Yodogawa area.
By starting from the relocated mural, visitors can walk around the Juso area, visit nearby restaurants and shops, and explore other murals scattered throughout the district, aiming to create new pedestrian traffic centered around art.
Through this initiative, Hotel Plaza Osaka aims to root the culture born at the Expo within the community and create new points of contact that connect local residents, hotel guests, and tourists. The hotel will continue to disseminate culture and contribute to further enhancing the appeal of the Juso area.
Comment from Shintaro Sugawara, Director, Hotel Plaza Osaka:
"We participated in this project with the desire to ensure that the work created at the Expo is not ephemeral but remains in a form that many people can encounter in their daily lives within the community. Hotel Plaza Osaka aims to be a hub that connects the community and people, as well as an accommodation facility. We hope that 'Kibo no Keifu' will become a reason for people to visit Juso and lead to the promotion of new attractions in the area."
