On Saturday, March 14, 2026, FANCL Corporation held an event titled "Nagomi time Ennichi – A Day for the Mind and Body to Gently Relax –" at the Bellesalle Ariake Conference Center (Koto-ku, Tokyo), aimed at cancer patients, citizens, their families, and medical professionals.
This event was held with the goal of providing opportunities for learning, experience, and interaction through collaboration between medical institutions, experts, and companies, focusing on "appearance care"—the care for physical changes resulting from cancer treatment. Approximately 100 people attended the venue, spending a positive time interacting with one another through talk shows, makeup experiences, and dance programs.
[Background of the Event]
In recent years, advances in cancer treatment have led to an "era of living while undergoing treatment," making initiatives that support the quality of life (QOL) of patients increasingly important.
In particular, "appearance care," which addresses the physical changes caused by cancer treatment, is considered vital support that goes beyond mere aesthetic care, helping patients live their lives as themselves while remaining connected to society.
With the cooperation of the Cancer Institute Hospital of the Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research (JFCR), this event was organized as an opportunity to experience appearance care by combining "medical knowledge," "easy-to-adopt daily self-care," and "interaction among participants."
[Event Highlights]
Talk Session with Anna Umemiya and Medical Professionals
Talent Anna Umemiya appeared as a guest for the special talk show.
Reflecting on her own experience with cancer, Umemiya said:
"My perspective on life changed significantly before and after having cancer. My daughter told me, 'You've become so kind, like a different person.'"
Regarding her experience with cancer, she added:
"I know there are people being diagnosed with cancer today. By giving shape to my own experiences and sharing them, I want to be a source of strength for someone else. I want to live a life where I can feel that there was meaning in having had cancer," she said, expressing her desire to live while staying connected to society.
Medical professionals from the Cancer Institute Hospital of the JFCR also took the stage to exchange opinions on the environment surrounding cancer patients and the nature of support.
Miho Nakamura, Head Nurse of the Patient and Family Support Department at the Total Care Center of the Cancer Institute Hospital of the JFCR, stated:
"If detected early, there is a possibility that you may not lose your hair. That is why early screening is so important."
She also touched upon the need to create places in the community, not just within medical institutions, where people can feel comfortable seeking advice.
Additionally, Dr. Akemi Kataoka, Chief of Breast Surgery at the Breast Center of the Cancer Institute Hospital of the JFCR, urged the audience:
"Please take what you heard today and share it with those around you when you return home. It is important to spread accurate information throughout society."

Experiential Programs Including Makeup Demonstrations and Dance Bring Smiles to the Venue
On stage, beauty journalist Takako Yamazaki held a demonstration on "Makeup to Look Energetic." Using Miho Suzuki, Co-Representative Director of the certified NPO Maggie's Tokyo, as a model, she introduced key points for brightening one's impression in a short time. As Yamazaki explained the tips while demonstrating, participants listened intently, taking notes and nodding, showing interest in practical techniques that could be easily incorporated into daily life.
Next, cancer-specialized exercise instructor Rika Murakami led a "Yuru-Tre Dance" (Gentle Training Dance). The program allowed anyone to move their body comfortably to music, and participants joined in on the spot, naturally filling the venue with smiles. Moving their bodies helped ease tension, wrapping the entire venue in a warm, unified atmosphere.
