PIECLEX, a wholly owned subsidiary of Murata Manufacturing, announced that its new material, the “electric fiber” PIECLEX, has been adopted for the first time in a product by Maker’s Shirt Kamakura, known as Kamakura Shirts. A T-shirt using the material went on sale through the company’s online store on April 24, 2026. The product is designed from a material-first perspective. It uses PIECLEX fiber, which is positioned as a science-based, skin-friendly textile. PIECLEX is characterized by an antibacterial effect generated by the weak electricity produced through human movement. The fiber also uses a carefully controlled lactic-acid bleed design based on plant-derived polylactic acid (PLA), with a mildly acidic concept inspired by components naturally present on the skin. Australian merino wool (17.5 microns, equivalent to Super 120’s) is also used to provide a soft, premium feel and the qualities of a natural material. The T-shirt features a simple, easy-to-wear design for everyday use. At 157g/m², the fabric is lightweight and suited to spring and summer wear. It can be worn either as an inner layer or on its own across a wide range of settings. The product is compatible with P-FACTS, PIECLEX’s circular infrastructure for apparel. Made mainly from biodegradable materials, it is designed to be collected, sorted and composted after use, returning to soil and supporting the cultivation of new plants. Product details: the PIECLEX T-shirt is sold under the Maker’s Shirt Kamakura brand in gray, with sizes M, L and XL. The material composition is 62% wool, 20% polylactic acid (PIECLEX) and 18% polyester. The price is 8,690 yen including tax, with sales beginning on Friday, April 24, 2026, through the Maker’s Shirt Kamakura online shop. Maker’s Shirt Kamakura was founded in Kamakura in 1993 and has built its reputation on high-quality materials, made-in-Japan sewing and shirts designed to support business professionals worldwide. Kamakura Shirts and PIECLEX are also collaborating through the Kamakura Shirts Cotton Project at Moriyama, an initiative based in Moriyama, Shiga Prefecture, that aims to create a “fiber to compost to fiber” cycle by collecting used clothing, composting it, growing cotton with that compost and turning it into products again. PIECLEX was created by combining Murata Manufacturing’s piezoelectric technology with Teijin Frontier’s synthetic fiber technology. When the fibers move with the wearer’s body, they generate weak electricity and provide antibacterial performance. The material is made from plant-derived PLA sourced from crops such as corn and sugarcane, and is biodegradable under specified conditions. Through P-FACTS, PIECLEX is working with partner companies, local governments, welfare facilities and schools to implement a sustainable circular infrastructure. PIECLEX will also participate in GREEN×EXPO 2027. Through Team P-FACTS, for which it serves as representative member, the company will provide official uniforms for attendant staff and volunteers as a platinum partner of the venue operations project. PIECLEX will also participate independently as a platinum partner in a project to create visitor engagement and enhance the event experience.
