GOOD NATURE STATION, a mixed-use commercial facility operated by BioStyle Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto; President: Takeshi Yamashita), will host the special exhibition 'Outreach Botanical Garden 2026: The Botanical Garden Comes to the City' in collaboration with the Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden (Location: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto) from Wednesday, July 1, 2026, to Wednesday, September 30, 2026. This marks their second collaboration in two years.
Aligned by the shared goal of 'biodiversity conservation,' the exhibition will merge the Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden’s professional 'species preservation' efforts with GOOD NATURE STATION’s ongoing initiative to 'recreate satoyama ecosystems in urban settings.' By visualizing these two contrasting approaches to conservation, the event aims to widely promote tangible actions toward a sustainable future.
The exhibition will unveil lesser-known frontlines of biodiversity conservation, including special panels on the historical text 'Bencao Gangmu' and intense footage of staff searching for endangered species on steep cliffs. Additionally, the courtyard featuring vertical greening will welcome iconic plant species such as cacao and vanilla trees, while a lush beer terrace will run concurrently. Numerous workshops designed to make learning about plants enjoyable will also be held. Visitors can experience a refreshing summer moment in the heart of the city, surrounded by greenery, and gain a deeper appreciation for nature’s beauty and its connection to a sustainable future.
Main Exhibition: Frontlines of 'Species Preservation' and the Urban Satoyama (4F GALLERY & Courtyard)
In the GALLERY, visitors will encounter videos of staff tracking endangered plants on cliffs and displays of actual field tools, portraying the botanical garden staff as 'heroes' safeguarding the future of plant life. Panels featuring the stories and motivations of eight staff members will stimulate intellectual curiosity. The courtyard’s vertical green wall, home to over 80 plant species, will be redefined as a 'living exhibit,' showcasing special arrivals such as vanilla and cacao trees from the botanical garden. This vibrant space will illustrate the connection between food and nature.
Throughout the facility, plants associated with Kyoto festivals—Katsura, Futabaaoi, Mukuge Shira Gionmori, and Hioig—will be featured in an in-house card rally. During the exhibition period, visitors can purchase the 'Mystery Glasses,' which allow forest observation from a bird’s ultraviolet perspective, and the 'Exploration Book,' an engaging guide to acorn ecosystems.
