[Zentis Osaka] Hosting 'Zentis Art-in-Residence: The Essence of Shodō'

Zentis Osaka (Location: 1-4-26 Dojimahama, Kita-ku, Osaka; General Manager: Kiyotaka Saito), located in Dojimahama, Osaka, will host 'Zentis Art-in-Residence: The Essence of Shodō' from Monday, June 1, 2026, to Wednesday, March 31, 2027. The event will feature artworks created specifically for Zentis Osaka by Osaka-based calligraphy artists Baikei Uehira and Taiga Uehira. During this period, the hotel will also offer a special accommodation plan designed to enrich one's sensibilities by facing oneself through calligraphy.

As the third installment of the 'Zentis Art-in-Residence' series, which provides guests with opportunities for intellectual encounters through art, this exhibition focuses on the traditional Japanese art of calligraphy. Baikei Uehira, Representative of 'Seisho Shohokai', an organization that transmits culture from Osaka to the world while pursuing new forms of calligraphy while preserving tradition, and Vice Representative Taiga Uehira, a father-and-son duo, have created a variety of original works that will lead to new inspiration. Based on the theme of 'Inheritance and Evolution' inspired by the hotel's brand concept 'Encounters of a New Kind', Baikei produced 'Dragon' and Taiga produced 'Tiger' to create paired calligraphy works, expressing them as 'things that complement each other'. Enjoy encounters with 'something new' created by calligraphy artworks in a tranquil hotel space away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

In conjunction with this exhibition, a special accommodation plan including a water calligraphy kit that allows guests to easily experience calligraphy will be available for a limited time starting Monday, June 1, 2026. The water calligraphy kit, which uses water instead of ink to write on special paper repeatedly, and the perfume bath salt from 'PARFUM SATORI', a brand that expresses traditional Japanese culture through scent, will help refresh your mind and body even after returning home.

Furthermore, as an exclusive off-site activity for hotel guests, private lessons will be available to directly learn the basics of calligraphy from either Baikei or Taiga. Fully enjoy the experience of touching Japanese culture in Osaka.

At the 'UPSTAIRZ Lounge, Bar, Restaurant' on the 2nd floor of the hotel, dishes and cocktails inspired by calligraphy will be served. The 'Squid Ink Risotto with Burrata Cheese', inspired by ink and Japanese paper, is a rich dish made with risotto cooked in shellfish and kelp broth, mixed with overflowing cheese. The refreshing cocktail 'Zen Tonic', which features the scent of jasmine and the acidity of shikuwasa, uses a few drops of bamboo charcoal lemon oil as a finishing touch to represent liquid ink.

'Zentis Art-in-Residence: The Essence of Shodō' Overview

Artworks by Baikei Uehira, Representative of 'Seisho Shohokai' based in Osaka, and Taiga Uehira, Vice Representative, will be exhibited in the hotel. In addition to 10 newly created works based on the theme of 'Inheritance and Evolution' inspired by Zentis Osaka's brand concept and the 'father-son' relationship of the two calligraphers, 'Iwashigumo' (Cirrocumulus clouds), created by Baikei in 2015 to express the beautiful Japanese sky, will invite visitors into the world of calligraphy. Baikei produced 'Dragon' and Taiga produced 'Tiger' to create paired works, expressing their relationship as 'things that complement each other'. The 11 artworks will be displayed sequentially in the hotel, allowing guests to enjoy spatial presentations that slowly change with the seasons.
