Record 1138 Entries in Logo Division: 'Japan Typography Yearbook 2026' Released April 13th, Offering an Overview of Latest Typography Trends

Starting in 1969 as the 'Japan Lettering Yearbook,' this year's edition marks the 47th publication. This book features 481 works selected from a total of 2101 entries by 13 judges. Works were widely accepted through open calls from overseas, and through rigorous judging by committee members and the previous year's Grand Prix winner, one 'Grand Prix,' departmental 'Best Work Awards,' and 'Jury Awards' are presented to highly-rated works or artists based on individual perspectives. You can get an overview of the latest typography trends across 10 categories, including typefaces, logotypes/symbol marks, VI, graphics, editorial, and research/experiments. This year's Grand Prix work was selected from the VI division among over 2100 submissions. The logo division received a record 1138 entries, and many excellent works selected from them are featured.

Japan Typography Association and the Japan Typography Yearbook
The Japan Typography Association was established in 1971, succeeding the Japan Lettering Designers Association formed in 1964, with the aim of developing expressive techniques centered on character communication. Currently, its membership extends overseas, and it engages in various activities such as promoting typography, holding exhibitions, and researching intellectual property rights. The 'Japan Typography Yearbook' is published annually by the Japan Typography Association. Succeeding the 'Japan Lettering Yearbook' published in 1969, it was retitled 'Japan Typography Yearbook' in 1976 and has continued to document the history of excellent typography.
