A new cultural hub that will etch a new chapter in music history, "Shibuya LOVEZ," has been born in the heart of Tokyo's Shibuya district.
Gracing the inaugural opening series on its first day were T.M.Revolution, who continues to lead the Japanese music scene and celebrates their 30th anniversary this year, and Takanori Nishikawa. This report covers two performances by this unique artist, who presented an exceptionally challenging stage by completely altering their artist name and concept on consecutive days.
June 27 (Sat) "Shibuya LOVEZ OPENING SPECIAL LIVE 『T.M.Revolution REWIND OF VOTE JAPAN』"
The venue was packed to capacity. Five minutes before the show began, spontaneous, thunderous applause erupted from the floor, escalating into a ground-shaking "Turbo Call." Amidst the overwhelming excitement, Takanori Nishikawa, dressed in a formal suit, appeared on stage with his band members. After offering a polite bow to the audience, he declared, "To all party members and comrades gathered here at Shibuya LOVEZ! We hereby declare the opening of Shibuya LOVEZ and the convening of the Reiwa 8th Year New Party Provisional Party Convention!"
He offered congratulatory remarks to Bandai Namco Holdings, the operator of this venue and a fated partner who has walked alongside him since "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" in 2002, and to the construction personnel. Then, he boldly tossed the congratulatory paper he held into the air and kicked off the opening number, "Committed RED." The hands of the packed audience shot up towards the ceiling in unison.
Still buzzing with excitement, Nishikawa delivered another address and launched into "DOUBLE-DEAL." The floor responded with intense headbanging to his aggressive performance, which again involved discarding the congratulatory paper. Muttering, "I just got too excited," he delivered a third address before moving on to "SWORD SUMMIT." Nishikawa switched to a handheld microphone and moved energetically across the stage, while the band members' performance intensified as they stepped forward. As his call of "Come on!" in the chorus was met with a ground-shaking chorus of voices, they seamlessly transitioned into "Naked arms" with that same momentum.
Nishikawa expressed his deep gratitude, saying, "I am deeply moved to have been entrusted with the significant role of opening this new venue as T.M.Revolution." He spoke of moments in life when things change, encounters with people, and casual observations that suddenly feel very close to oneself, quoting Confucius to emphasize his belief: "To pursue one thing with all one's might."
Following "Save The One, Save The All," which showcased a groovy ensemble, he boldly ripped off his tie and launched into "resonance," where the chorus echoed powerfully. During the interlude, he shouted, "Shibuya—!" further electrifying the floor.
In the subsequent MC, he addressed the recent earthquake originating in Yamanashi and the approaching typhoon, noting the unsettling weather. He revealed that the decision to hold the live show that day was a difficult one, considered "until the very last moment." He expressed concerns for the safety of fans traveling from afar, such as by plane, and his hesitation about whether it would be better to "take a day to prepare." However, what loomed largest was the immense responsibility of being the "opening day of the opening series" for the new venue. "It would be too bad luck to cancel the first day. Plus, if that happened, I'd probably be told forever, 'See, when Nishikawa does it, it gets chaotic' (laughs)." While saying this, he admitted to confronting the latest weather information head-on, stating, "It was a constant stare-down with the weather radar," drawing a huge round of applause and cheers from the floor.
Nishikawa's consideration extended to fans who, due to the bad weather or disaster, could not make it to the venue that day. "There might be a few people who couldn't come today for those reasons. If you have any dear friends who couldn't make it, please tell them this: I will always be here waiting for you, so we can meet with smiles next time." His words, filled with the strength to overcome adversity and the kindness to leave no one behind, enveloped the venue in warm applause.
Dynamic footage from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" was displayed on the screen as "INVOKE" began. The Gundam visuals used that day were a luxurious surprise, specially produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks for the occasion. As the song continued seamlessly, Nishikawa threw his suit jacket onto the stage and yelled, "Let's go, Shibuya!" During "ignited−イグナイテッド−," the floor responded with full-hearted call and response.
Amidst the ground-shaking bass drum of "Zips," a ground-shaking chorus, the loudest of the day, erupted during the chorus. In the mid-tempo ballad "Meteor−ミーティア−," his overwhelming sustained notes filled the venue, leaving the audience breathless. After finishing the grand performance of "vestige-ヴェスティージ-," Nishikawa briefly left the stage.
Nishikawa reappeared in a black shirt under blue lighting and passionately sang "Out Of Orbit 〜Triple ZERO〜." He then transformed the floor into a massive dance floor with the digital dance tune "魔弾 ~Der Freishütz〜," before moving into "THUNDERBIRD." His beautiful, sky-piercing high notes resonated with the new venue's acoustics, enveloping the audience in deep emotion.
In a subsequent MC, he passionately recounted how, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic a few years prior, he would gaze at the scenery of this very spot, which was then just a parking lot, feeling frustrated and empty. He declared that it was this feeling that motivated him to decide that the first live performance at this venue would be "VOTE," and that's why he came here, earning applause from the floor.
With that fervent vow, "LEVEL 4" was unleashed, and the live show entered a climax with the limiter released. Megahits like "HIGH PRESSURE," "HOT LIMIT," and "WHITE BREATH" were performed in succession. As the energy reached its peak, Nishikawa boldly unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his impressively sculpted chest and physique, the result of daily rigorous training. He powered through to the end of the main set with "HEART OF SWORD ~夜明け前~," delivering an overwhelming display of energy and performance.
During the encore, the excitement still palpable, he powerfully performed the solid rock tunes "BLACK OR WHITE?," "Inherit the Force," and finally "LIGHT MY FIRE." The historic first day at the new sacred ground concluded with a perfect finale: a unified "ippon-jime" (one-clap) performed by the entire venue, with Nishikawa saying, "Since this is the inaugural performance, I'd like to conclude with an ippon-jime. Wishing everyone good health!"
June 28 (Sun) "Shibuya LOVEZ OPENING SPECIAL LIVE 『Takanori Nishikawa REWIND OF VOYAGE』"
The second day featured a long-awaited revival of the world of "SINGularity III -VOYAGE-," held in 2025, brought to life in the new venue. Five minutes before the show, a ground-shaking "Turbo Call" spontaneously erupted from the floor. As a countdown video appeared on the screen, the excitement doubled, and the audience joined in shouting the countdown from the last 10 seconds.
After the lights went down, Nishikawa and the band members appeared with a futuristic opening video, met by the audience's clapping. The heavy bass of the opening number "Never say Never" exploded, and the momentum accelerated with "BREACH." The collaboration song with Tetsuya Komuro, "Believer-TK SONG MAFIA Remix-," had the audience jumping in unison with intense headbanging to the edgy digital beat, shaking the venue.
In the first MC, he called out, "I want to embark on this voyage with all of you, back to a journey of memories. Will you come with me?" He spoke of the joy of performing a cherished tour at a special venue. In "ALL UNITED," the audience's voices merged from the intro, and as they swayed to the four-on-the-floor dance tune, a ground-shaking chorus of "Oh-oh-oh" erupted during the interlude. When Nishikawa shouted, "This is the best!" the volume of the singalong grew even louder.
After powerfully singing "天叢雲剣-SKYBREAKER-" with overwhelming vocal strength, the show transitioned into the concept-driven performance synchronized with visuals, a key feature of this live event. Set in a futuristic space, a story unfolded of Nishikawa confronting AI, posing the profound question, "What will become of humans and AI? Or, where are you headed?" This led into the mid-tempo heavy tune "LIBERATED," with its deep bass.
In the MC, he spoke of his determination to move to the next step after this tour, describing the songs he was performing again after a long time as feeling "like meeting an ex-girlfriend (laughs)." He playfully responded to the audience's teasing "Fuuu!" with "It's not 'Fuuu!' (laughs)!" bringing a lighthearted laugh to the venue. Expressing his gratitude, "Thanks to all of you, I've been able to continue as TNNK, and seeing you enjoy yourselves freely is the best," he moved into "FREEDOM." Nishikawa conducted the audience like a maestro, leading a massive chorus of "Freedom!" from the floor.
Depicting the grand scale of "BEYOND THE TIME-メビウスの宇宙を越えて-," the show returned to the dialogue with AI. The message "Both humans and AI can change" was met with the AI's reply, "Humans are interesting. And the world is beautiful." Seamlessly transitioning from this, "Breaking Daylight" created a beautiful, cinematic space as the on-screen visuals and the music synchronized perfectly.
Here, Nishikawa unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his impressive muscles, and passionately sang "VOYAGE." He let out a sky-piercing sustained note before leaving the stage. After an intense session featuring a fierce drum solo, DJ scratch, and guitar & bass solos from the remaining musicians, Nishikawa reappeared in a costume change. In the exhilarating "Eden through the rough," calls of "Oi! Oi!" arose, and Nishikawa sang energetically, bouncing along.
He smoothly transitioned into the rock dance tune "As a route of ray," turning the audience into a dance floor as everyone jumped during the chorus. Nishikawa also shouted, "We gotta go wild!" and intensely agitated the audience. With that momentum, they plunged into "Be Affected," roaring "Shibuya, let's get wild!" and concluding with a tremendous drum roll. "Hear Me" followed, with an even larger chorus than before echoing through the venue.
As he was about to start the MC segment, the intro to the next song began to play. He humorously responded to the sudden event, "I was so nervous from preparing so hard for this one-time-only show that I started running ahead (laughs)." He remarked, "I'm the first to stand on this stage, but if I'm not mistaken, I think I have great chemistry with this venue?" Addressing the audience, he shared his positive feedback: "Before, when I performed new songs, you'd look like, 'Are you really going to sing here...?' But today, you're all singing along on your own. Isn't that wonderful!" He added, "Compared to T.M.Revolution, who has walked for 30 years, we're still just beginners. But we're doing something special right now. There's still room for growth. I believe how much we grow from here depends on me!" drawing a huge cheer.
He powerfully sang "Bright Burning Shout" and "Life's Anomalies," leading into a furious dance music segment. Everyone jumped and sang along to the dance beat of "His/Story," and Nishikawa shed his shirt, revealing a tank top. Amidst loud cheers, he moved into "REBRAIN In Your Head." Nishikawa then removed the tank top as well, performing shirtless. During "UNBROKEN," he roared "Jump!!" and the audience jumped along, building excitement towards the main set's finale, "Crescent Cutlass." He fully embraced the massive chorus, imbued with all his energy, and bowed, projecting his heartfelt "This is the best!" to the floor before leaving the stage.
Responding to the encore, Nishikawa and the band members reappeared on stage. "No matter what happens, I want to fully support you in the way I can," he declared passionately, and emotionally sang "あんなに一緒だったのに," which was elevated into an orchestral, heavy rock piece.
"Despite two typhoons and an earthquake on this important inaugural occasion, I want to prove everything together with you all, considering it all as part of our lives." With that, he tapped the floor as if checking its stability and said, "It seems okay, so let's go wild!" launching into the final number, "Energy Overflow." The energy reached its peak with the cry, "Best, Shibuya—!!" Finally, everyone vigorously waved their towels, demonstrating an unbreakable bond, and delivered a perfect finish with the band members.
Nishikawa exclaimed, "That was the best!" with pure joy, and all the members joined hands for a deep bow. Amidst the unending applause, he made a surprise announcement: "I'll be holding a tour this autumn!" drawing a huge cheer. To his surprised fans, he said, "You make time! Let's meet again!" and dashed off the stage with a beaming smile.
The first day marked a page in Shibuya LOVEZ's history, showcasing the legacy of the Japanese pop scene, while the second day demonstrated the spirit of the "VOYAGE" tour and its potential for future growth. The first page of Shibuya LOVEZ's history was written in the most magnificent way possible, through the love between musician and entertainer Takanori Nishikawa and his fans.
