Biome, a living thing collection app, has begun sequentially distributing its new feature "Living Thing Link" from today, July 7, 2026 (Tue). This feature expands the encounters with living things within the app from mere "records" to "relationships."
With this new function, records such as "date of first post," "number of posts," and "posting history" are displayed collectively for each type of living thing, allowing users to look back on their observations to date. This enables users to view their past records chronologically, which were previously just isolated points, making it possible to visualize reunions with the same living things and seasonal changes, thereby fostering ongoing engagement.
Recording Encounters with Living Things as "Connections"
Biome is a living thing collection app where users can post and share photos of living things. Celebrating its 7th anniversary in 2026, Biome has provided opportunities to focus on familiar living things through its AI-powered name identification feature, a Q&A function for users to help each other identify names, and "Quests" that make searching for living things enjoyable like a game.
The newly launched "Living Thing Link" is a feature that allows users to look back on the records they have observed and logged as connections.
This feature collectively displays, for each living thing, the date of first encounter, the number of posts, the number of "likes," and past posting history. For example, users might realize they searched for praying mantises every year, discover the difference in blooming periods for spiranthes orchids between last year and this year, or feel the transition of seasons by finding cicadas in the same park every year. Observations that were previously left as individual "records" are now connected over time, allowing users to reflect on their unique relationships with living things.
User Feedback from the Beta Version
Users who participated in the early access provided the following insights and feedback:
"It brings back memories."
"I realized that there were several species I thought I had posted before, but actually hadn't."
"I've encountered more types of insects than I expected."
"I was able to look back at the living things I posted in the past. It was also good to be able to keep track of the living things I encountered for the first time."
* "Living Thing Link" is available on iOS/Android with version 4.0.0 or later. * The latest version is being distributed sequentially. It may take some time for it to reach all users.
