BL Manga 'Futsuu no Renai' by Manga Artist with Over 400,000 Total SNS Followers to Get Live-Action Drama from July 2 on CBC TV and More

Number Nine Inc. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Takuma Kobayashi; hereinafter 'Number Nine'), a manga IP publisher, announced that the BL manga 'Futsuu no Renai' by manga artist Masaya Jiki will be adapted into a live-action drama starting Thursday, July 2, 2026, on CBC TV's 'Drama Trip' slot and other channels. This is the first time a Number Nine work will be broadcast on terrestrial TV. To commemorate the live-action adaptation, a comment from the author, Masaya Jiki, has been released. Additionally, a teaser visual featuring the double lead actors, Yuki Furukawa and Ryodai Nagano (from the group 'Genin wa Jibun ni Aru.'), has also been unveiled.

The story is characterized by a realistic and detailed romance that depicts the worries and conflicts unique to same-sex relationships, alongside everyday joys, misunderstandings, sweet moments, and differences in sexuality and values, much like heterosexual romance. The work was already popular during its serialization on X and pixiv, and after being released as an e-book, it garnered many reviews, maintaining a high rating of 4.7 on Kindle. It is widely accepted by readers ranging from BL fans to a more general audience.

Synopsis

Yuki Furukawa has been cast as Ichiro Fumihara, a gay man hurt by past relationships who feels insecure about his 12-years-younger lover. Ryodai Nagano, a member of the 7-member dance and vocal group 'Genin wa Jibun ni Aru.', has been cast as Keii Azuma, the young, straightforward subordinate who tries to accept Fumihara's trauma. 'I was surprised when I received the offer for a live-action adaptation. "Futsuu no Renai" was a self-published series, so it doesn't have a compiled volume and is only available as a doujinshi and e-book. The fact that such a work could be adapted into media like this is thanks to the cooperation of many people. I am very grateful.

With the live-action adaptation, there are parts that differ from the manga, but I personally believe the expressions are suitable for live-action and effectively convey the charm of the story. I think it will be enjoyable for the readers who have supported us so far.

Masaya Jiki

He won honorable mentions in the Weekly Shonen Sunday Monthly Award in 2015 and the Shogakukan Newcomer Comic Award in 2016. He made his manga debut in 2017 with the one-shot 'Jukensei' published in Weekly Shonen Sunday.
