Sega Creator Playlist Vol. 1 "Tomoya Ohtani – Essential Works" Released on Spotify and Apple Music

SEGA Corporation has launched a new music playlist project focusing on its creators. As the first installment of this project, we are pleased to announce the release of "Tomoya Ohtani – Essential Works," a playlist selected by Tomoya Ohtani, the sound director for the "Sonic" series, on Spotify and Apple Music.

This playlist is an official selection of 100 songs personally chosen by Tomoya Ohtani from the music he has created to date. It features representative tracks from the "Sonic" series, as well as musically ambitious works such as "Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure" and "Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg," and even songs from Serani Poji, with whom he participated as an arranger. You can enjoy a style that fuses essences from a diverse range of genres, including theme songs, upbeat instrumentals, and drum and bass to metalcore, all centered around a solid identity.

We plan to sequentially release more playlists focusing on creators in the future. Please look forward to them.

I have determined the direction of the music while envisioning what kind of emotional experience I wanted to create. In every work, I have tried to prioritize concepts and challenges rather than my own style. However, when I look at these 100 songs lined up, it feels like even though I've challenged myself with various genres, they all turn out to be "Ohtani-esque" songs. I would be happy if you could enjoy them as the journey of a single musician.

Tomoya Ohtani Profile

Joined SEGA in 1999. He has been involved in the music production of numerous console game titles, including "Sonic Adventure 2," "Space Channel 5 Part 2," and "Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure." For "Sonic the Hedgehog" released in 2006, he served as the sound director and lead composer for the "Sonic" series for the first time. He has since worked on many songs, including the main themes, for subsequent series titles. For "Sonic Frontiers," released in 2022, he received an Excellence Award in the Music Division at CEDEC Awards 2023. He has also received high acclaim both domestically and internationally, ranking 10th as an artist and his representative song "Undefeatable (feat. Kellin Quinn)" ranking 15th in the report "Popular Japanese Songs and Artists in the United States (2023)" published by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

In 2020, he released the non-stop DJ mix album "Sonic The Hedgehog DJ Style 'PARTY'," composed solely of Sonic music, and in 2021, to commemorate SEGA's 60th anniversary, he released "SEGA 60th Anniversary Official Bootleg DJ Mix," which runs through all 60 songs from SEGA's history. He is also actively involved in producing game music DJ mix works and DJ activities. He also works as a bassist and participated in the "Sonic Symphony World Tour" performances in London, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Paris, and Boston. In the live event "SONIC MUSIC EXPERIENCE," which started in 2025, he performs DJ sets composed exclusively of Sonic music.
