Smile Company Inc. (Headquarters: Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture; Representative Director: Shunsuke Yamano; hereinafter, Smile Company) will hold 'Rakugaki Car,' an experiential project for children to freely draw on scrapped cars, treating them as canvases, at Smile Cars Tome (Miyagi Prefecture) and Smile Cars Asahikawa (Hokkaido). The events will take place on Sunday, May 17, 2026, in Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture, and on Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Obihiro City, Hokkaido, across two venues.
The purpose of this project is to provide children with unforgettable memories and a creative space through the extraordinary experience of directly drawing pictures and words on cars that have served their purpose and are scheduled for scrapping. The experience of 'drawing on a car,' which is usually never allowed, will be a special moment that makes not only children but also observing adults' eyes sparkle. This time, we will participate as a project within two large community-based events: a local childcare support flea market and a traffic safety awareness festival co-hosted by JAF and a driving school, to offer the opportunity to experience this to more people.

Smile Company held 'Rakugaki Car' on March 14, 2026, in Hidaka City, Saitama Prefecture, targeting approximately 30 children belonging to local youth soccer teams. Interactions naturally arose across team boundaries, and the car body was filled with various colors and messages. Parents also gave positive feedback, saying, 'It was a valuable experience' and 'I saw a new side of my child.' This time, we are expanding this activity to Tohoku and Hokkaido.
Comment from the initiator of 'Rakugaki Car'
Isao Kojima, Store Manager, Smile Cars Hakusan (Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture)
'Can't we let children have a blast with cars that we've purchased for scrapping before they are actually scrapped?' With this idea, we started 'Rakugaki Car.' We have participated in three events so far, such as local markets, and received a huge response. The extraordinary experience of 'drawing on a car,' which would normally get you scolded, makes not only children but also adults' eyes sparkle as they wield their pens. We even received happy comments like, 'We came to the event because of Rakugaki Car!' When we started the event, we also wanted more people to know about 'Smile Cars.' Now, I am happy that this circle is gradually expanding to stores nationwide. I hope that someday, 'Rakugaki Car' events will spread all over the country, and people will say, 'When you think of Smile Cars, you think of Rakugaki Car!'
