About the Awarded Work
'Cadence of the Spiral' is a kinetic installation inspired by the movement of the mainspring inherent in mechanical watches.
Thin, flexible metal unfolds in a spiral, and the structure, supported by multiple arms, expands and contracts independently, repeating tension and relaxation. Its deflection propagates throughout the whole, continuously creating different orders moment by moment.
The ever-changing spiral form quietly outlines the invisible contours of time, bringing a sense of rhythm and breath to the space.

Background of Production
Spline Design Hub is committed to creating new experiences through the practice of design engineering that transcends sensibility and technology.
This work started with the internal structure and movement of a clock, a device for measuring time, but aimed not merely to reproduce its mechanism, but to translate it into a spatial experience. By reconfiguring it as a device to 'feel' time rather than 'see' it, the aim was to influence the very nature of perception.

I am deeply honored that 'Cadence of the Spiral' has received the Silver A' Design Award. This work was an attempt to translate the energy and temporality residing in the small mechanism of a mechanical watch's mainspring into a spatial experience. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the production team who shaped this work by moving back and forth between design and engineering, and to everyone at Seiko Watch Corporation who engaged in the initial dialogue that became the starting point for this work.
