A film adaptation of Renzo Shibata's samurai novel, directed by Tokuzo Tanaka of "Zatoichi's Flashing Sword." The screenplay was written by Seiji Hoshikawa, who would go on to work on 8 films in the series. It depicts the conspiracy surrounding the Kaga domain's smuggling and Kyoshiro's involvement in a revenge drama. Highlights include the golden duo of Raizo and Tamao Nakamura as the tragic heroine, and Kenzaburo Jo (later Tomisaburo Wakayama) playing a master of Shaolin Kung Fu.
