JR West Hotel Development Co., Ltd. (Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, President and CEO Eiji Tsubone), which operates JR West Hotels, is striving to create hotels that are kind to all people and the environment, with the slogan "As a hotel living with the city, what we can do now for the future."
We have compiled the SDGs and sustainable initiatives promoted across all 13 hotels in our group in fiscal year 2025 into the "Sustainable Project 2025: Connecting to the Future." The purpose of this project is to clearly communicate to our customers, employees, and everyone who has cooperated with these initiatives, the achievements related to "Preventing Global Warming," "Circulating Food Resources and Reducing Food Loss," "Coexisting with the Community," and "Employee Initiatives" from this project. Please see below for details. We will continue to evolve our initiatives for the future and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society together with the community.
JR West Hotels Sustainable Project 2025: Connecting to the Future
《For the Prevention of Global Warming》
Carbon offset of approximately 189 tons through the sale of "CO2 Zero STAY®"
We reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 189 tons through the sale of "CO2 Zero STAY®," an environmentally friendly accommodation plan that allows customers to carbon offset the CO2 emissions generated during their stay.
Approximately 58% of consecutive stays utilized eco-cleaning with customer cooperation
Our hotels offer "eco-cleaning" as standard for consecutive stays, where linens are not changed during room cleaning. With customer cooperation, approximately 58% of consecutive stays were eco-cleaned. This contributed to reducing environmental pollution from detergents used in laundry and saving heavy oil, water resources, and electricity.
《For the Circulation of Food Resources and Reduction of Food Loss》
Approximately 10.6 tons of plastic reduction through the circulation of cooking oil as food resources
By introducing straws and toothbrushes made from "Kaneka Biodegradable Biopolymer Green Planet®," manufactured using a mass balance approach with used cooking oil from our hotels as a raw material*, we have contributed to reducing food waste and saving approximately 10.6 tons of plastic. *Excluding Umekoji Potel Kyoto.

Approximately 136 tons of food waste reduction through the recycling of food waste
We reduced food waste by approximately 136 tons by recycling food waste generated within the hotels into livestock feed and providing it for biomass power generation projects.
Utilization of "Mottainai" ingredients and reduction of food waste through the development of sustainable menus
During the "JR West Hotels Autumn SDGs Month" period (*1), we developed an original vegan curry (*2) that utilizes "mottainai ingredients (non-standard produce)" that are still edible but would otherwise be discarded, thereby reducing food waste.
*1 The period from September 25th (GLOBAL GOALS DAY) to October 31st (Food Loss Reduction Day) each year is designated as "Autumn JR West Hotels SDGs Month," during which sustainable initiatives related to "food" are promoted.
*2 The base for the vegan curry was made by crushing "spent grain" generated during beer production at Tango Kingdom Brewery (Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture) and blending it with approximately 20 types of spices, as well as vegetable broth (stock made by simmering vegetable peels, etc.) and non-standard pearl corn from Murata Farm (Kuse District, Kyoto Prefecture). (The provision of this vegan curry has currently ended.)

《Coexisting with the Community》
147 accommodation plans planned and developed in cooperation with local communities
By cooperating with local governments, local businesses, and shrines and temples, each hotel planned and developed unique accommodation plans that showcase the local area. This not only enhanced the appeal of local tourism resources and contributed to the local economy but also created unique and moving experiences, fostering repeat visitors and contributing to regional revitalization.
Examples of Accommodation Experience Plans
・Hotel Granvia Kyoto: "Tea Ceremony Experience at the Authentic Tea Room 'Sharakukan'! Experience the World of Tea Ceremony with All Five Senses"
・Nara Hotel: "Accommodation Plan with Ticket to Kasuga Taisha Shrine's 'Ultimate National Treasure Great Armor Exhibition'"
・Hotel Vischio Osaka: "Experience Osaka's Manufacturing Technology! Accommodation Plan"
《Employee Initiatives》
Holding of the "JR West Hotels Sustainable Activity Contest"
This contest was held to provide an opportunity for all group employees to learn about the sustainable activities and initiatives practiced by each hotel and to create a "chance for each individual to seriously consider the future," leading to further activities for the realization of a sustainable society. In fiscal year 2025, the "Allergen-Free Buffet Using 7 Specified Allergens*" at Hotel Granvia Hiroshima was selected by employee vote.
*A buffet event offering allergen-free menus that do not use 7 specified allergens (shrimp, crab, wheat, buckwheat, eggs, milk, peanuts).

Utilization of the Eco-Cap Movement for medical support in developing countries and environmental education for children
Bottle caps generated by employees' food and beverage consumption were sorted, and approximately 187,120 caps were collected in fiscal year 2025. These were sold to recycling companies, and the proceeds were used for medical support in developing countries, environmental education for children, and support activities for people with disabilities.
Contribution to local environmental beautification through participation in local cleaning activities
Employees participated in cleaning activities at station fronts and parks in the vicinity of each hotel, totaling 55 times in fiscal year 2025. These activities not only beautified the environment but also raised environmental awareness and contributed to the improvement of the local community.
