C'BON COSMETICS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Kazuhiro Sakiyama, Securities Code: 4926), which develops the unique beauty program "Home Care + Salon Care", focused on the value of "touch care" cultivated in its facialist salon business. The company conducted research on the ideal state of skincare based on the close relationship between skin and mind, and presented the results at an academic conference.
A part of this research result was presented at the 27th Annual Academic Conference of the Japanese Society of Health Promotion held from March 6 to 7, 2026.
Background of the Research:
In recent years, the bidirectional relationship between psychological states and skin conditions has become scientifically clear. Against this background, we focus on the psychological value brought by communication accompanied by touch, and are pursuing the possibility of health support through skincare that goes beyond mere appearance improvement.
It is known that skin becomes susceptible to dryness and external stimuli due to a decline in barrier function, which not only causes disorders but also contributes to discomfort and stress. On the other hand, maintaining a clean state through appropriate washing and comfortable stimulation through touch have been reported to contribute to psychological security and relaxation.
Based on this background, in this study, we formulated and verified the hypothesis that simultaneously satisfying the three elements of "skin health", "skin cleanliness", and "tactile comfort" works on both maintaining skin health and psychological satisfaction, ultimately leading to health support.
Research Results:
In this study, assuming massage use, we conducted a comparative evaluation of the "sustainable liquid crystal type cream formulation" developed by our company with O/W type cream formulations and oil formulations. The sustainable liquid crystal type cream formulation showed the characteristic of maintaining structural thickness and smoothness by forming and maintaining a liquid crystal structure during massage. On the other hand, the O/W type cream formulation became structurally unstable over time, and the oil formulation blended into the skin quickly, showing a tendency for lubricity to decrease during treatment.
Furthermore, this formulation yielded results suggesting the maintenance and improvement of stratum corneum barrier function, and continuous use showed an increase in moisture content and improvement in fine lines caused by dryness. In addition, a removal effect against various types of dirt, such as pore dirt and makeup, was confirmed, suggesting the possibility of also having a cleansing function.
In the evaluation of usability during massage, the comfort due to less friction and thickness was supported, confirming the compatibility of functionality and sensory value.
From these results, the sustainable liquid crystal type cream formulation is considered useful as a skincare formulation that simultaneously satisfies skin health, skin cleanliness, and tactile comfort, leading to satisfaction of both skin and mind.
Outlook:
In a super-aging society, the importance of skincare that works on both skin health and psychological fulfillment, rather than just improving appearance, is increasingly growing.
We have been promoting product development that works on the skin and mind through skincare, focusing on the value of communication through touch. This formulation embodies these efforts and is expected to be deployed as a new approach in the nursing care and health support fields.
We will continue to develop products that stay close to both the skin and the mind, with an eye to solving social issues.
