This new collection of works by photographer Trevor Key is the first attempt to celebrate his creative process and foresight over more than two decades, from 1972 to 1995. The book is a timely reminder of Key's proto-digital, hands-on approach, which can be described as the "magic of photography," and serves as an enduring visual love letter to the future of image-making.

Throughout his creative journey, Key partnered with like-minded individuals who shared his rigorous conceptual thinking, including art directors Jamie Reid, David James, and Peter Saville. Together, they expanded their imaginations, solved visual challenges, and continued to take creative risks.

The visual core of this work lies in the experimental collaborations between Key and Saville. This was poured into their personal quest, which transcended the boundaries of conventional client work, to rethink image-making and create a truly independent and contemplative creative flow. In conversations featured in the book with Saville, a renowned art director and Key's collaborator, and Charlotte Cotton, a writer and curator, Saville offers detailed and deeply personal recollections of the background, practices, and dramatic transformations of the visual culture they created together.

In the mid-1980s, Key revolutionized the conventional darkroom, producing vibrant, abstract images that remain as contemporary today as they were in 1987. This serves as a universal beacon for the freedom inherent in collaborative processes on a human scale, and also as a roadmap for creating the visuals of our time.
