65th Ranyukai Orchid Exhibition to Be Held at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Featuring Orchid Cup 2026

Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, will host the 65th Ranyukai Orchid Exhibition in Sunshine City: Orchid Cup 2026 from Thursday, June 4 to Sunday, June 7. The event will showcase and sell beautiful orchids and a wide variety of early-summer orchids that can be enjoyed by everyone from beginners to advanced enthusiasts. Highlights include a gathering of orchids from around the world, offering visitors a rare opportunity to compare flowers from many countries in one place; the Orchid Cup, where visitors’ votes will determine the most popular orchid; a display of the rare Gastrodia elata, an orchid that has no chlorophyll and does not photosynthesize; and an impressive exhibition of about 600 diverse orchid plants, showing not only their botanical beauty but also their individuality and presence. As one of Japan’s largest summer orchid exhibitions, the event is organized around the spirit of Ranyukai, an amateur orchid enthusiasts’ organization: fostering harmony among people through the enjoyment of orchids, and protecting, learning about, and passing on orchid culture. The exhibition will feature displays and sales of many kinds of orchids from more than 30 countries. This year marks the 65th edition of the exhibition. Inspired by the international tournament held once every four years, the event will present the special program Orchid Cup 2026. Representative orchids from countries around the world that reach their best season in early summer will be displayed by country, allowing visitors to enjoy differences in flower shape, color, and ecology. A popularity vote by visitors will also be held, with the most-supported potted orchid receiving an award. The event also plans to exhibit Gastrodia elata, a rare orchid that lacks chlorophyll and grows in symbiosis with fungi. Other displays will introduce orchids grown attached to trees, as well as various cultivation methods and ways to enjoy orchids. In addition, about 600 distinctive orchid plants from Ranyukai members and affiliated orchid groups will be exhibited, allowing visitors to appreciate not only the beauty of orchids but also the uniqueness of their growth habits. Workshops and other programs will offer opportunities to learn about orchids from multiple perspectives.
