10 Days to Enjoy Okinawa in Tokyo! "The 17th Sunshine City Okinawa Mensore Festa" to be Held from May 22 (Fri) to 31 (Sun)

Sunshine City (Ikebukuro, Tokyo) will hold "The 17th Sunshine City Okinawa Mensore Festa" for 10 days, from May 22 (Friday) to May 31 (Sunday), an event that showcases various aspects of "Okinawa," a proud tourist destination of Japan, across facilities within Sunshine City.

The "Okinawa Mensore Festa" began as a result of the "Coral Project," which Sunshine Aquarium has been undertaking since 2006 with the cooperation of Onna Village, Okinawa Prefecture. This year, as the project celebrates its 20th anniversary, a comprehensive partnership agreement was signed on April 17 to further develop the cooperative relationship with Onna Village. This event marks the first large-scale joint initiative after the agreement, embodying partnership matters such as tourism and the promotion of culture and arts.

Leveraging relationships with local governments such as Onna Village, this year's event will again feature the unique and diverse "Okinawa Product Exhibition." 55 stores will participate, with 12 making their first appearance at the event, and 8 of those making their first appearance outside Okinawa Prefecture. You can enjoy the real, local charm that can only be found here.

In addition, you can fully enjoy Okinawan culture throughout Sunshine City and its surroundings, including live stages by Okinawan artists at the Fountain Plaza and Eisa dance experiences at Ike-Sanpark.

Key Highlights of Sunshine City Okinawa Mensore Festa

1. Experience deep and authentic Okinawan culture!

Utilizing a network with local areas including Onna Village, the appeal of this event is being able to touch upon "authentic Okinawa." This time, "Kadena Town" will participate as a local government for the first time, and the charm of various remote islands like Ishigaki Island, not just Okinawa main island, will also gather. You can discover real tourism information and new attractions from each region.

2. Tokyo's largest "Okinawa Product Exhibition" - 8 out of 55 stores are "first-time exhibitors outside Okinawa"! Rare gourmet food available!

This year, 55 stores will participate, with 12 stores making their first appearance at this event, offering a fresh lineup even for repeat visitors. Furthermore, 8 of these stores are exhibiting outside Okinawa Prefecture for the first time. Rare gourmet dishes that are hard to find outside Okinawa will be available. In addition to souvenirs, you can immediately enjoy freshly prepared Okinawan delicacies such as Okinawa soba and Sata Andagi on the spot.

3. Sunshine City turns Okinawan! "Awamori Bar" held for the first time at the Aquarium, where you can enjoy A-Ball while watching jellyfish!

At the Fountain Plaza and the product exhibition venue, lively live stages by Okinawan traditional performers and artists connected to Okinawa will be held daily. Furthermore, at Sunshine Aquarium, special guided tours and workshops to learn about coral will be offered, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the "Coral Project" which initiated the Mensore Festa. Additionally, in the "Jellyfish Kukan" exhibition area, an "Awamori Bar" will be held for the first time during nighttime hours, where visitors can relax and enjoy A-Ball (Awamori soda highball) while admiring the drifting jellyfish. With the combined effect of interior decorations and BGM utilizing the scale of a large complex facility, you can experience Okinawa throughout the entire building.

4. New kids' space & approximately 400 dining seats make Okinawa enjoyable for everyone!

Sunshine City aims to be a facility where families can spend their time "more enjoyably, comfortably, and safely." This time, a "kids' space" will be newly established within the product exhibition area. Families can take their time and enjoy without worrying about time limits. Furthermore, approximately 300 seats and standing tables will be available within the product exhibition venue. Outdoors, a beer terrace with about 120 seats will appear, where you can enjoy items purchased at the product exhibition while listening to live music. Individuals, friends, and families can all spend their time in their own way.
