【Alliance presents Fukuoka Bordeaux Wine Festival 2026】Experience a taste of France with gourmet food and wine at this extraordinary event, starting May 15!

Fukuoka City and Bordeaux City, France, established a sister city affiliation on November 8, 1982 (Showa 57). To further deepen this excellent exchange relationship, the "Fukuoka Bordeaux Wine Festival," one of Japan's largest Bordeaux wine events, was born in 2017 to commemorate the 35th anniversary.

This year, marking its 10th anniversary, we propose the "ultimate marriage" of exquisite gourmet food and Bordeaux wine to connect this wonderful culture to a wider range of generations. The event will be held again this year at "Fukuoka City Hall West Fureai Plaza" from May 15 (Friday) to June 14 (Sunday).

*1 What is the deposit system? It is a system where a deposit for the glass (500 yen per glass) is collected when purchasing wine, and the deposit is refunded when the glass is returned.

This year's "Fukuoka Bordeaux Wine Festival" maintains the elegance of Bordeaux wine while pursuing a "harmony of food and wine" that allows more people to casually drop by. We strongly promote food and wine pairings, especially to younger generations who might find "wine difficult." We carefully select wines that best match the exquisite gourmet dishes. We offer a new gastronomic experience where you can find your favorite glass and dish. Also, the highest-grade wines from the top five châteaux, which are highly popular every year, will be available by the glass again this year. Classical music and jazz will be performed on stage, creating a sophisticated atmosphere where the cultures of Fukuoka and Bordeaux resonate. Enjoy a relaxing time in a space where gourmet food and music merge.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the event, the logo mark will be completely renewed. The new symbol is the owl, affectionately known as a "guardian deity" and "wise man of the forest." Owls play an important role in protecting the natural ecosystem as "living pesticides" that protect grapes from pests. With this owl as an icon, the event will evolve into one that is more approachable and cherishes tradition.

Fukuoka City - Bordeaux City Sister City Exchange

■ Over 40 years of East-West ties

The idea of an affiliation between the two cities was brought up by the director of the Kyushu-France Institute in 1977. The accumulation of citizen-level exchanges, such as visits to Bordeaux by private organizations, children's art exhibitions and photo exhibitions, and sister affiliations between Kyushu University and Bordeaux University, bore fruit, leading to the sister city affiliation agreement in November 1982.

Since the agreement, the two cities have engaged in various exchange projects over many years, deepening their friendly relations through wine, gourmet food, and exchanges between companies and students.
