Survey of 300 Mothers: 70% Support Their Daughters' Decision to Freeze Eggs

Grace Group Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yukihiro Katsumi), operator of the egg freezing storage service 'Grace Bank,' conducted a survey on 'Daughters' Pregnancy and Egg Freezing' among 300 mothers with daughters aged 0 to 39.

When asked if they would support their daughter if she wanted to freeze her eggs, 69.4% of mothers answered 'Support' or 'Somewhat support.' In contrast, only 8.3% answered 'Oppose' or 'Somewhat oppose.'

Among the 208 mothers who supported the idea, the top reason given was 'Because it broadens future options' (56.7%* multiple answers). Real opinions from mothers included: 'I want her to reduce regrets in a diversifying world' (Hokkaido, 37), and 'As late marriage becomes common, it’s good to leave as many options as possible' (Iwate, 42).

On the other hand, reasons for opposition among 25 mothers included 'Vague anxiety or fear' (13.7%), 'High cost' (9.3%), and 'A preference for natural pregnancy' (9.0%).

Notably, 38.2% of the supporting mothers expressed a willingness to provide financial aid for the costs involved in egg freezing.

Regarding the future of egg freezing, 39.0% believe it will become common, while 42.0% are unsure. Positive comments mentioned technological progress and expanded government subsidies, suggesting that it might become a standard part of life planning, similar to job hunting or wedding preparations.
