Kaitoru Inc. Tackles SDGs Through Reuse, Obtains SDGs Company Certification by Expanding "The Option Not to Throw Away"

Background of Certification

Under the trade name "Tsunaguya," the Company operates a buying business for a wide range of items including brand-name goods, precious metals, jewelry, and watches. The reuse business, which involves purchasing unwanted items at fair prices and connecting them to the next user, is closely related to the SDGs' "Responsible Consumption and Production" (Goal 12), "Decent Work and Economic Growth" (Goal 8), and "Climate Action" (Goal 13) from the perspectives of waste reduction and effective resource utilization.

By re-organizing the social significance of these business activities and establishing new goals and plans based on the SDGs philosophy, the Company has promoted initiatives towards the realization of a sustainable society, leading to this certification.

Future Initiatives

1 Buying Business

Through events, stores, and in-home buying services nationwide, we purchase items lying dormant in customers' homes at fair prices, giving new value to items that would otherwise be discarded. Returning to our origin of eliminating "mottainai" (wastefulness), we are working to create an environment where more customers can easily utilize our buying services.

2 Selling Business

We promote resource circulation by connecting purchased items to the next users through the auction "Tsuna-Oku" and the EC platform "KIRARIKA." We contribute to the sound development of the reuse market by realizing redistribution at fair prices.

3 Franchise Business

We will spread the culture of reuse throughout Japan by expanding our event-based buying franchise nationwide. Furthermore, by providing locally rooted buying services together with our franchise owners, we will promote the realization of a circular economy at the regional level.

"The buying business we handle is inherently a business with high affinity for the concept of SDGs. Items that customers feel are no longer needed still have value and there are people who will use them next. Acting as a bridge for this directly leads to reducing waste and circulating resources.
